In compliance with the budget announcement, development works initiated at a cost of Rs 57.22 crore, which include beautification of the lake, construction of infrastructure and other decorative works.
Endless possibilities are being made in the development. According to Dr. Sharma, “there are harmony of geology, archeology and history with natural beauty to attract tourists here which will naturally attract tourists. Ramgarh area reserve conservation area has also been declared by the Forest Department. Tourism Department, Forest Department and Public Works Department are working shoulder to shoulder for the development work of this area.” He added, “The first two craters in the country are Lunar Crater in Maharashtra and Dhala Crater in Madhya Pradesh. Director of Tourism Department Dr. Rashmi Sharma said that the tourism department is working to develop and identify new tourist places in the state.”
According to the General Secretary of The Society of Earth Scientist Mr. Dr. Satish Tripathi, “in the year 1869, 12 km from Mangrol Tehsil of Baran district of the state. A crater located in the distance was discovered. It is believed that this crater was formed by the impact of a meteorite falling from space 600 million years ago. The diameter of this crater is 3.5 km. Natural Geographical Heritage Ramgarh Crater has been given constitutional recognition in the year 2020 by the international organization, Earth Impact Database Society of Canada.”
The evidence of meteorite falling here is scientifically established because of the energy produced by the impact of the meteorite melts the sand and becomes glass. Higher than normal amounts of iron, nickel and cobalt have been found in the crater. Many asteroids also contain these elements in high quantities, so their presence also gives evidence of meteor strikes here.
According to Mr. Dalip Singh Rathore, Deputy Director of Tourism Department, apart from the Ramgarh crater, the ancient Shiva temple of the tenth century of Khajuraho style is situated in the periphery of this crater. It is called Mini Khajuraho. There are two lakes located inside this structure which are the natural habitat of many migratory birds. There is also a 950-year-old Devi temple, along with a group of very ancient temples. Kelpuri Samadhi Sthal is also located here. The Embassy of India in The Hague in partnership with Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Government of the Netherlands organized a G20 Beach Cleanup at the famous Scheveningen beach in The Hague on 12 May 2023.
“Addressing marine litter” is one of the focus areas under India’s G20 Presidency. The beach cleanup drive in The Hague is part of India’s global initiative to bring attention to the problem of marine litter and the need to work together towards sustainable development of oceans.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Reenat Sandhu highlighted the powerful message behind the theme of India’s G20 Presidency – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.
She emphasised the importance of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment) and need to adopt sustainable and environment-friendly lifestyles. Underscoring India’s sustained efforts to mitigate marine litter, she mentioned about the mega beach cleanup campaign held in India in 2022 where 75 beaches were cleaned over a period of 75 days.
The Government of the Netherlands was represented by Afke van Rijn, Director General and Vice-Minister for Environment at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management. Rijn appreciated India’s commitment to promoting international cooperation in addressing challenges of environment pollution and climate change. She highlighted the efforts by the Netherlands government to combat plastic litter at national level.
The event was also supported by the Municipality of The Hague. Representing the City, Deputy Mayor Hilbert Bredemeijer spoke about some of the unique initiatives taken in the Netherlands, in particular in The Hague, to address marine pollution.
Ambassadors and diplomatic colleagues from other G20 countries and invited countries also participated in the beach cleanup.
More than 150 people including local Dutch citizens actively participated in the beach cleanup activity and jointly collected 240 kgs of marine litter including 5410 cigarette butts. Two civil society organizations in the Netherlands working on raising awareness of marine litter in the North Sea – the Stichting Noordzee and TrashUre Hunt were also part of the campaign. A ‘Waste-to-Art’ open air exhibition, showcasing art objects made from trash collected at the beach, was also mounted, which was visited by several hundreds of people at the Scheveningen Beach.
All the G20 members and guest countries have joined hands with India to raise public awareness regarding marine litter. India’s Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change will be organizing a beach cleaning drive involving the delegations from various G20 Members and Guest countries on 21 May 2023 in Mumbai, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings on environment. The initiative will draw global attention to the need to combat coastal and marine pollution and the role of citizens and their participation in preventing and cleaning up marine litter.
