What impacts will it make with the making of corridor as promised by PM Modi on Braj Dham?

0

Our recent exploration of Barsana, Gokul, Vrindavan, and Mathura brought to light the untapped potential of these ancient cities. While they resonate with spiritual richness, it is evident that these places demand attention for infrastructural development and improved hygiene facilities. Siddha Swarupa Dasa, our group lead, shed light on the challenges faced by the influx of global visitors and proposed insightful perspectives.

In the heart of Barsana, traffic management remains a challenge, and the absence of adequate space for large vehicles hampers accessibility to the village. As this location has evolved into a significant global tourist destination, the promised Krishna Circuit corridor, as announced by Prime Minister Modi during his recent visit to Braj Dham, holds immense promise. The introduction of this corridor could potentially revolutionize the situation, addressing traffic concerns and bolstering hygiene maintenance.

Dasa emphasized the profound spiritual love that has grown in the hearts of visitors to these sacred sites. The serene atmosphere provides a respite from the hectic schedules of life, attracting people from all corners of the globe. The month of Kartik, considered the favourite month of Lord Krishna, witnesses a surge in visitors, seeking solace in the divine surroundings. The special Damodar Aarti performed during this month’s poornima adds a spiritual charm to the already enchanting atmosphere.

Furthermore, Dasa shared insights from the archaeological department, revealing that the pillars of Nand Ghar, also known as the Chaurasi Khamba Temple, have been authenticated as matching the ancient era. This revelation enhances devotees’ love and faith in the authenticity of the tales associated with these sacred places.

Another opportune time to experience the divine aura of Braj is during the festival of Holi, particularly the renowned “Lathmaar Holi.” Playing Holi with flowers adds a unique and vibrant flavor to the festivities, attracting enthusiasts from far and wide.

The spiritual treasures of Barsana, Gokul, Vrindavan, and Mathura are undeniably profound. While these cities serve as a sanctuary for the soul, it is imperative to address the pressing issues of infrastructure and hygiene to ensure a seamless and enriching experience for the multitude of devotees and visitors. The proposed corridor and ongoing archaeological revelations only add to the allure of these sacred sites, promising a brighter future for these timeless gems.

Priyanshi Pareek reports on SEBI Chairperson..

SEBI

The Securities and Exchange Board of India was constituted as a non-statutory body on April 12, 1988 through a resolution of the Government of India.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India was established as a statutory body in the year 1992 and the provisions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992 (15 of 1992) came into force on January 30, 1992.

Who is Madhabi Puri Buch?

Madhabi Puri Buch is the chairperson of the securities regulatory body Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). She is the first woman chairperson to lead SEBI.

Since April 2017, Madhabi Puri Buch has functioned closely alongside former SEBI chairperson Ajay Tyagi. In her role as SEBI chairperson, Buch is acknowledged for swiftly implementing changes that have contributed to systemic improvements and the corporatization of the organization, thereby enhancing its efficiency.

She is the 10th Chairperson of SEBI.

Six months into her tenure—Buch took over as Sebi’s first female chief on March 2, 2022—she set the ball rolling to make the regulator more “developmental and facilitative” in its approach. Buch—who returns to Business Today’s Most Powerful Women in Business list this year after 2010, when she was MD & CEO of ICICI Securities—identified Sebi staff across departments to engage actively with industry and market participants to get their views and feedback, and help formulate better policies for the development of the market. More importantly, these responsibilities were made part of their KRAs or key responsibility areas.

Former Ministers of SEBI

  • Dr. S.A. Dave was the first chairman of SEBI, serving from 12th April 1988 to 23rd August 1990.

Unveiling the Thrills of the 2023 Ultimate Kho Kho Season: A Glimpse into the Teams, Changes, and Anticipated Excitement

0

As the fervor for kho-kho continues to sweep across India, the stage is set for the exhilarating second edition of the Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK) tournament in 2023. Scheduled to take place from December 24, 2023, to January 14, 2024, in the vibrant city of Cuttack, Odisha, this season promises to be a spectacle of speed, strategy, and sportsmanship.

A Historic Player Draft

The journey to the 2023 season began with the player draft held on November 21, 2023, where 145 players out of 272 were carefully chosen to join the league. Interestingly, 18 players were retained by the franchises from the previous season, injecting a sense of continuity and loyalty into the evolving narrative of UKK.

The Six Powerhouses

Six dynamic teams will grace the kho-kho battleground, each bearing a distinctive identity. The Chennai Quick Guns, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Khiladis, Odisha Juggernauts, Rajasthan Warriors, and Telugu Yoddhas are poised to bring their A-game, vying for supremacy and the coveted UKK title.

Evolution of Ultimate Kho Kho

UKK, a franchise-based kho-kho league, burst onto the scene in 2022, gaining rapid popularity. In its inaugural season, which ran from August 14 to September 4, 2022, Odisha Juggernauts emerged as the champions, captivating the audience with their thrilling victory over Telugu Yoddhas in the final.

Notably, UKK soared to become the third-most viewed non-cricket competition in India, trailing only behind the Pro Kabaddi League and the Indian Super League. The league’s success prompted Sony Pictures Network India to ink a substantial 5-year broadcasting deal worth ₹200 crore (US$25 million), underlining the growing influence of kho-kho in the Indian sports landscape.

Unconventional Rules for Unparalleled Entertainment

To elevate the excitement, UKK introduced several rule modifications, making the game more captivating for both players and spectators. From a reduced playing field size to innovative scoring systems like “Running Touch,” “Sky Dive,” and “Pole Dive,” UKK promises a unique kho-kho experience.

The league also stands out with a visionary approach, as plans are underway to launch a women’s version of UKK in the coming years. Additionally, future editions aim to expand to eight teams, potentially featuring a team from Northeast India. The inclusion of venues in multiple cities and the possibility of foreign players joining the league will undoubtedly contribute to the global appeal of kho-kho.

A Financial Milestone

Ahead of the second season, UKK achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian sports league to secure private equity-based funding. A UK-based group recognized the potential of UKK, providing the league with the financial backing necessary to fuel its growth and secure its position in the competitive sports industry.

Unveiling the Modified Rules

The UKK rules, while rooted in the traditional framework of kho-kho, incorporate intriguing twists to amplify the game’s intensity. With only seven players on the attacking team, a compact playing field, and a dynamic “Wazir” role, UKK promises a fast-paced and strategic spectacle. The introduction of powerplays, shortened turn durations, and a unique tiebreaker named “Minimum Chase” add layers of complexity and unpredictability to the game.

The Countdown Begins

As the countdown to the 2023 Ultimate Kho Kho season begins, anticipation is high for the clash of the titans and the emergence of new kho-kho legends. With the league evolving, breaking barriers, and embracing innovation, UKK is undoubtedly on the path to becoming a cornerstone of India’s sporting legacy. Get ready to witness kho-kho like never before – fast, furious, and absolutely unforgettable!

Why you should visit Gokul? Read this to know my experience…

0

The second day of our tour with the Akshay Patra Group took us to Gokul, where Lord Krishna spent his childhood. Gokul is a mesmerising place where stories of Krishna’s childhood adventures echo in the surroundings even today.

We started our visit by experiencing Raman Reti, where people showed their love for God by rolling on the soft mud. A priest shared that the mud became soft when Krishna arrived here over 5000 years back.

People believe that by tasting this mud and building homes here, they receive blessings from Lord Krishna. We then visited the temple, where everyone joyfully danced and sang Radhe Krishna bhajans. Next, we walked to Nand Ghar, where Krishna was brought as an infant by his father Vasudev. Krishna here was brought up by Yashodha and Nandlala. On the way, we saw the spot where Krishna killed the demoness Putna.

At Nand Ghar, also called Chaurasi Khamba Temple, we saw the place where Yashodha Mata tied Krishna with ‘aokhhli’ ( with pillars -in hindi called as Khamba) to stop him from stealing buttermilk from Gopis of town. We learned that waiting patiently, like Lord Shiva did, is important here while sitting out. We entered in this temple crawling on all four knees like newborns, as a humble gesture.

Our journey continued to Radha Damodar Temple, where Yashodha Mata tied Krishna with the mortar. Gokul is a special place, and my visit was an unforgettable experience.

Barsana: Narrow lanes bespeak Radha-Krishna tales here….

0

Barsana? Despite being a Jaipur born, I was unaware of the spiritual significance of this place. However, had heard the famous song “Barsane wali Radhe” and hence was connected to this place. But on my recent trip to Barsana located in Uttar Pradesh, India,  I did get a chance to soak the spiritual bliss spread around this place which was enchanting and mesmerising.

Barsana is the place of Radha, Krishna’s Radha; Radha whose name is always taken first before Krishna. It is believed that Radha never disappoints her devotees and fulfills all prays of people

On our tour, we first visited the place called Prem Gali, also known as Sankrikhor. On this place, Krishna and Radha used to meet, here the khor is between two mountains, one of which is of Brahma and other is of Vishnu. The Sakhrikhor is a very narrow lane in which only one person can cross at a time.

Going on this lane, one gets to see a lot of small temple of Radha. The first temple spoke the story of the ritual of Radha-Krishna engagement. Near this temple, one can also witness Vaibhar Kund also Known as Radha Kund which was made by Krishna’s flute.

Also there are lot of monkeys on this place; so one needs to be careful of their belongings as they take away the stuff like specs, mobile phones, any eatables etc. Moving forward, we saw the famous Dan Bihari temple. Here Shyam (Krishna) came to meet Radha in the dressup of bangle seller and gave his flute to Radha as his honour of love. It is said that he took the daan of Buttermilk(Makhaan) from whole Braj and gave his beloved flute at Barsana to Radha. Finally, we reached the much-awaited Radha Rani temple which has a lot of spiritual significance. Here I found people dancing on the bhajans of Radha Krishna happily and were feeling out of the world, a peaceful experience.

On the path of going to temples, one can see beautiful markets which are very cheap and affordable. Also the tradition of block printing mehandi is associated with this place. Colourful bags and dupattas were the major attractions of the market. So, next time you get the opportunity to see this place, don’t forget to shop as I really regretted of not doing it.

To know about the Day 2 visit to Gokul and Mathura stay tuned!

What a shame: First time in history of sports, an opposition leader calls the PM of the country ‘Panauti’ for losing a match

0

Priyanshi Pareek

Recently, Rahul Gandhi, at a poll rally in Rajasthan’s Jalore said, “Ache bhale hamare ladke waha pe World Cup jeet jaate, par panauti harwa diya (our boys were almost winning the World Cup, but the ‘bad omen’ made them lose).”

The statement by Rahul Gandhi wasn’t a normal statement as it is being said to the country’s Prime Minister.

This was not the first time that any PM is going to watch a cricket match, many dignitaries went to watch cricket but never ever someone termed their PM a panauti.

Even Australia’s PM was present there. Would any of the opposition leaders have called him like this if Australia had lost the match? The answer will be NO as the PM is not just a normal person, he represents the nation and saying anything to him means raising hand against the nation.

The Election Commission on Thursday issued a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his ‘panauti’ (bad omen) and ‘jebkatra’ (pick pocket) remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The notice came a day after the BJP filed a complaint with the poll body against the Wayanad MP.

The EC has asked Gandhi to submit an explanation by 6 pm on Saturday, articulating why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The MCC is a set of guidelines that political parties and candidates need to follow to ensure free and fair elections.

However, beyond politics, shouldn’t the countrymen question the opposition leader for his sheer remark which goes against the spirit of sportsmanship.

“Yes, sports represent healthy competition and cricket is a game of gentlemen. Anybody making such remark should be boycotted by sports authorities for such remark challenges the spirit of sportmanship. One team out of two always loses a match in presence/absence of senior leaders/celebrities. It just doesnt matter who is present in the stadium but what matters is the sportmanship of players. So anybody making such a remark should be dealt with an iron hand, says Ruchi, a cricket fan who is left shocked and surprised by this remark.

Election in Argentina – Javier Milei becomes the next President of Argentina

0

Priyanshi Pareek reports on the elections of Argentina..

General elections were held in Argentina on 22 October 2023 to elect the president, vice president, members of the National Congress, and the governors of most provinces. As no presidential candidate won a majority in the first round, a runoff was held on 19 November, in which Javier Milei defeated Sergio Massa.

In the runoff, despite initial predictions, Sergio Massa managed to rally stronger support from various sectors, highlighting innovative economic strategies to counter inflation. With a spirited campaign emphasising unity and economic stability, Massa secured a narrow victory with 51.5% of the vote, edging out Milei.

Upon his win, Massa immediately began assembling a diverse cabinet, inviting experts from different fields to address the economic challenges. His inauguration on 10 December 2023 marked the beginning of a promising term focused on implementing progressive economic reforms and fostering international partnerships for Argentina’s growth.

The 2019-2023 Period

In the 2019 election, Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner of the Frente de Todos defeated Mauricio Macri’s Juntos por el Cambio, marking a historic win.

Fernández’s presidency faced challenges due to COVID-19 and a debt crisis. Despite a partial economic recovery in 2021–22, inflation soared to 100%, leading to consistently low approval ratings. Critics cited Fernández’s lack of a clear plan and heavy reliance on advice from Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

The 2021 midterms saw heavy losses for Frente de Todos, losing its congressional majority due to public dissatisfaction over inflation and poverty.

Ahead of the 2023 election, Fernández, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and former President Mauricio Macri opted out of the race. Controversies in Jujuy sparked protests.

The 2023 election occurred amid a dire economic crisis with over 140% inflation and 40% poverty, significantly impacting the ruling party’s reelection prospects.

Electoral System

In Argentina, the presidential election follows the ballotage system, a modified version of the two-round system. To win in a single round, a candidate must secure over 45% of the vote or attain 40% while leading by more than 10 percentage points over the second-place contender. Should no candidate meet these criteria, a runoff occurs between the top two candidates.

Voting is compulsory for citizens aged 18 to 70, while suffrage extends to 16- and 17-year-olds without mandatory voting. Polls open at 08:00 and close at 18:00 (UTC −3) during primaries and both rounds of the election. Initial results start to emerge around 21:00.

India’s Economic Growth Outlook by Goldman Sachs for 2024-25

0

Priyanshi Pareek reports on India’s Economic Growth Outlook..

As India’s population of 1.4 billion people becomes the world’s largest, its GDP is forecast to expand dramatically. Goldman Sachs Research projects India will have the world’s second-largest economy by 2075.

Santanu Sengupta from Goldman Sachs Research emphasises India’s potential lies in leveraging its growing population by increasing labour force participation and providing skill training.

With a low dependency ratio over the next two decades, India has an advantage with a significant working-age population compared to children and elderly. This presents a critical window to focus on setting up manufacturing, expanding services, and developing infrastructure for sustained growth.

What made Goldman Sachs Research’s long-term forecasts for India’s economy?

India’s progress in innovation and technology goes beyond demographics, highlighting the importance of innovation and increased worker productivity for its GDP growth. Greater output per unit of labour and capital is crucial.

Capital investment, driven by a rising savings rate, falling dependency ratios, and a robust financial sector, is poised to boost growth. While the government has played a role, healthy private sector balance sheets suggest conditions for a private capex cycle.

Favourable demographics present growth potential, but leveraging the large labour force necessitates enhancing participation rates through creating opportunities and upskilling.

Risks to Goldman Sachs Research:

The main downside risk for India’s growth lies in the stagnant labour force participation rate, particularly for women. Increasing opportunities, especially for women, can bolster this rate and enhance potential growth.

On the upside, productivity growth can drive expansion, supported by India’s significant strides in digitalization.

The Aadhaar biometric ID system has streamlined public service delivery, widened credit access for smaller businesses, and holds the potential to boost productivity, thereby contributing to growth.

Goldman Sachs said repeated supply shocks along with stable growth are likely to keep inflation above the central point of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) target of 4.0 per cent in 2024. “We forecast headline CPI inflation to decline to 5.1 per cent year-on-year (average) in 2024, above the RBI’s and consensus forecast of 4.7 per cent year-on-year, from an estimated 5.7 per cent in 2023,” it said.

Sectoral Projections for 2024-25: Investment and Consumption

Investment Projection: Goldman Sachs projects a substantial increase in gross fixed investment, forecasting a growth rate of 7.5% in 2024-25, compared to 6.4% in the current fiscal year. This growth is seen as a positive signal for the overall economic landscape.

Private Consumption: Contrastingly, the outlook for private consumption suggests a decline, dropping from 7.5% to 5.5%. This shift underscores the expected shift in the economic driver from consumption to investment in the coming fiscal year.

Mugdha Sinha, the Joint Secretary, provided a comprehensive overview of the upcoming Biennale, scheduled to take place from December 9th to 15th, 2023, at the iconic Red Fort. Themes include doors and gateways, enchanting gardens, awe-inspiring stepwells, majestic temple architecture, modern wonders of independent India, the contemporary face of indigenous design, and the role of women in architecture.

Importantly, it was revealed that the IAADB 2023 would serve as a precursor to India’s participation in the Venice Biennale 2024, facilitating a comprehensive dialogue among practitioners and professionals in art, architecture, and design. The Biennale aims to transcend boundaries, bringing traditional grassroots artists, contemporary designers, curators, architects, and thought leaders to the forefront.

Aligning with the vision of the Prime Minister, the IAADB will also mark the launch of the Development of Cultural Spaces project at the Red Fort, contributing to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.

The curtain-raiser event witnessed a significant turnout, with diplomats, artists, architects, designers, curators, government officials, gallerists, and museum professionals in attendance. The evening was further enriched by the captivating performance of the jazz quartet ‘Capital Three.’
