World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year  across the world to mark the importance of nature and environment and to make people aware of the importance of nature. It reminds  people that nature should not be taken for granted and should be respected for its values.

Although Covid outbreak has forced people to remain confined indoors and has turned nature clean, but still, there is a lot more to be done in this field. World Environment Day hence reminds people of what needs to be done:

World Environment Day is organised by the United Nations (UN) to generate awareness about the significance of nature and greenery. 

In 1972, the United Nations Assembly established World Environment Day, which was the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the human environment.

It was celebrated with the theme ‘Only One Earth’ in 1974.

World Environment Day theme for year 2021

The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ . The global host for the day is Pakistan this time. This day will also see the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

With an aim to highlight the importance of the environment and to remind people that nature should not be taken for granted, the World Environment Day is celebrated.
