Blue Pottery Jaipur wonder tale! (Traditional Craft of Rajasthan)

Blue Pottery Jaipur is a traditional craft of Jaipur which has marked the popularity of the Pink City (Jaipur) on the world map.

Its name ‘blue pottery’ is derived from cobalt blue dye which is used to color the pottery.

But do you know the history of Jaipur blue pottery?

The story of genesis of Jaipur pottery is quite interesting. Basically, it is an imported technique, first developed by Mongol artisans who blended Chinese glazing technology with Persian decorative arts.

This technique travelled east to India with early Turkic conquests in the 14th century.

During its infancy, Blue Pottery art was used to make tiles to decorate mosques, tombs and palaces in Central Asia.

Later, the Mughals began using them in India following their conquests and arrival in India. Gradually the blue glaze technique grew by leaps and bounds and the rare technique travelled to the plains of Delhi and in the 17th century went to Jaipur.
