International Dance Day 2022: Know date, significance and history…

International Dance Day is celebrated on April 29 each year. Here we bring its significance, history and official date…

The International Dance Day is celebrated each year on April 29 to encourage the participation and education of dance through events and festivals held during this date around the world.

The day was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute ITI, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO in 1982.

Aiming to highlight the amazing diversity and talent of dancers all over the globe, this Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) had established April 29 as International Dance Day in 1982

The story of selection of April 29th as the official date is also interesting as it was the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, innovator, and scholar of this art, teacher, and creator of modern ballet.

This celebration aims at encouraging the participation and education of dance through events and festivals held during this date around the world.
