The Great Indian Bustard carcasses with Pak men raise global outrage. India saves it, Pakistan kills it!  What to do with this neighbor?

0

The Great Indian Bustard carcasses’ pic with Pak men are going viral raising strong outrage on social media raising a demand for right action to be taken against accused which includes ex-Armymen of Pakistan!

Save the Wild, an organisation dedicated for the cause of saving wild life in Pakistan, in their tweets have publicly accused ex-Major Tanveer Shah of hunting innocent birds and animals including the Great Indian Bustard in Cholistan Protected Area.

In their tweet, it said, “Tanveer Shah has been hunting innocent birds and animals in Cholistan Protected Area /Cholistan Game Reserve for the last 30 years. Among these rare birds is the Great Indian Bustard which are on the verge of extinction and as per reports less then 100 birds are left in the World.”

The organisation is trying up to raise the issue strongly and its members have urged Gen Qamar Javed Bawaja to initiate action against the ex Major found as main culprit in the case.

Great Indian Bustard carcasses seen in the picture

EBNW carries the pictures of eight persons in the group photo in its feature image. Three of them are holding guns. They are displaying two carcasses of Great Indian Bustard (Ardeotis nigriceps) in their hands, spreading wings of birds to demonstrate their span and height. Their vehicle is parked at one side across a vast grassland habitat.

What does it mean to them? Poaching for the pot.  The photo is of a group of gun toting people in Pakistan’s Cholistan desert. They bagged two birds and had courage to arrange photo sessions and run away with the bag. Poaching of this species is not permitted. It was declared ‘endangered’ in 1994 by IUCN and was upgraded to status of ‘critically endangered’ in 2100.

One of the persons in the group photo has been identified as retired major Tanveer Hussain Shah of Pakistan army. He belongs to a village in Rahimyar Khan district. Reports stated that he and his men hauled up forest guards and others who tried to stop them poaching  and threatened them of dire consequences.

Great Indian Bustard in Great Thar Desert

Cholistan desert is part of the Great Thar Desert. It faces regions North of Bikaner in India. Similar habitat, so same species share it. Is it that the birds shot down there had migrated from India’s Desert? If so, what India did to react to such blatant poaching?

Great Indian Bustard total global number

The Great Indian Bustard species total global number is less than 200. About 80% of it resides in India and its 90% is located in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. Supported by Abu Dhabi based Houbara Breeding Centre, the Indian Government succeeded in ex situ breeding of this bird in its Desert national park during 2019-20. Sixteen chicks are in hand as testimony of the success, first such in world for the species. It is hailed as a great success for the Forest authorities of Rajasthan. Dr. Y.V. Jhala and Dr. Suthirtha Datta of Wildlife Institute of India have been leading this project funded by ministry of Environment & Forest, New Delhi.

Great Indian Bustard: India saves it, Pakistan kills it!

While India is trying to conserve the species, the neighbour is nullifying conservation initiatives. Pakistan has a long history of such cases. As Save the Wild organization tries to take up the issue, Indians await the right action to be taken by the country leaders in this perspective.

My grandfather HH Maharaja Sir Brijnathsingh ju deo was a gifted musician himself having a passion for music. The Maharaja was in search of an outstanding musician to teach him and his musicians. In 1918 he brought Allaudin Khan from Rampur and thus established the Maihar Senia gharana of Music.

Musicians Belonging to the Maihar Gharana

Prominent musicians belonging to the Maihar gharana include prominent sitar players Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, Allauddin Khan’s son sarod player Ali Akbar Khan, daughter Annapurna Devi and and grandsons Aashish Khan, Dhyanesh Khan, Pranesh Khan, Rajesh Ali khan, Alam Khan, Manik Khan and Shriraz Ali Khan.

Maharaja Gobind Singh Ju Deo

I still remember the December of 1975 I was practicing raag Kafi with my tutor Shri David sahebji in my father’s ( Maharaja Gobind Singh Ju Deo)private chamber, without realising that my father and Ali Akbar Khan saheb were hearing me from outside. Once I finished, they both walked in and I started to cry suddenly, I saw the joy in my fathers eyes and of course I was delighted.

Our childhood in Maihar was defined by a strict routine. Mornings were spent learning scriptures, Sanskrit was given special importance. My grandmother hailing from Semliya was a very pious and spiritual lady, she would often read the Ramayan to us. It was under her influence that I became a vegetarian.

Our evenings were special since both my parents were fond of music we would all gather in the Durbar hall where the Maihar band played all evening and the entire atmosphere was vibrant and yet enchanting – it was a joy for all of us. Even to this day I miss those splendid evenings with the band playing for us.

Festivals like Dussehra, Holi and Eid were celebrated with great enthusiasm. Perhaps the most impressive was Dussehra. A huge Ravan was built in the open maidan, which was full of people. My father lead the ceremonies and then the much awaited event was the lighting of the Ravan which was always done by my father. This was followed by cheers and loud cries of joy.

Whenever I reflect back on my life in Maihar, it gives me a great sense of being blessed. This upbringing has helped and groomed me in a very special way leaving me with joy and content.

Bill Gates & Melinda: Know how the cupid-struct couple met, married and called it split after 27 years!

0

Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife and fellow philanthropist Melinda have finally called it split announcing their divorce after a 27-year marriage.

The two constituted one of the world’s wealthiest couples — with a joint fortune estimated at $130 billion.

The Gates have been channelling billions into charitable work around the globe via their hugely influential foundation.

They announced their split on Twitter and said they would continue their joint work on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which funds programs in global health, gender equality, education and other causes.

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they said in a joint statement, posted on each of their official accounts.

They met at Microsoft

Bill Gates was a teenager when he launched something that became the world’s most valuable company. He was the world’s richest man for a time being and the most prominent philanthropist.

Melinda Gates met Bill at Microsoft in 1987, soon after after she joined the tech firm, and the pair married in 1994.

About philanthropy

Their foundation is among the world’s richest, which has provided over $54 billion in grants over two decades in areas including malaria and infectious disease control, agricultural research, basic health care and sanitation, in various parts of the world. Also, it has an endowment of more than $46 billion.

In recent years, Bill Gates has been keeping himself aside from Microsoft and the tech industry, and instead is speaking about poverty and health initiatives, and the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2008, he stepped down as Microsoft chief executive to contribute to philanthropy and later left the board.

He kept the title of “founder and technology advisor.”

Last year the foundation pledged some $250 million to help fight the pandemic.

Gates had been warning as early as 2015 about the potential dangers of a global pandemic and hence became the target of conspiracy theorists who claimed he knew in advance about Covid-19.
