The Lancet Planetary Health Journal study says that about 740,000 access deaths in India annually are linked to abnormal hot and cold temperatures due to climate change.
Highlights
Study conducted: An international team, led by researchers at Monash University in Australia conducted the study.
Study highlights: Deaths related to hot temperatures has increased in all regions from 2000 to 2019. It indicates, global warming due to climate change will further increase the mortality figure in future.
Mortality and temperature data: Studied by team worldwide from 2000 to 2019, this period accounted for an increase in temperature by 0.26 degrees Celsius per decade.
Key findings of study
As per the Lancet journal, more than five million extra deaths in a year can be linked to non-optimal temperatures, globally.
Number of deaths per year in India is linked with abnormal cold temperatures is 655,400.
Number of deaths in India linked with high temperatures is 83,700.
It underlines, 9.43 per cent of global deaths can be linked to cold and hot temperatures. It will account for 74 excess deaths for every 100,000 people. Most of the deaths will be caused by cold exposure.
It further highlights, Global warming may “slightly reduce the number of temperature-related deaths, because of lessening in cold-related mortality,”. However, mortality burden is going to increase in long-term because of climate change.
There are geographic differences in impact of non-optimal temperatures on mortality. Eastern Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa are having highest heat and cold-related excess death rates.
Cold-related death has decreased 0.51 per cent from 2000 to 2019, while heat-related death increased 0.21 per cent. Thus, net mortality has decreased due to cold and hot temperatures.
The Oxfam report says that ever since Covid-19 Pandemic has started, deaths from hunger have been outpacing the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Also, the global military spending has increased by $51 billion, says Oxfam report during pandemic times. This amount exceeds by at least six times what the UN needs to stop hunger.
So let’s discuss the key points of Oxfam’s Hunger Virus:
Ongoing Covid-19 pandemic along with the economic disruptions of the pandemic besides, escalating climate crisis have deepened poverty and catastrophic food insecurity across the hunger hotspots of the world.
This has also led to the established strongholds in new epicentres of hunger.
Situation could turn worst, unless governments urgently tackle food insecurity and its root causes.
As per report, 11 people are likely dying every minute from acute hunger because of three Cs: conflict, Covid-19, and climate crisis. 3 Cs have pushed more than 520,000 people to brink of starvation.
This rate of hunger related rate outpaces the covid-19 pandemic mortality rate, which is 7 people per minute.
It highlights, 155 million people across the world are now living in crisis levels of food insecurity or worse. It has increased by 20 million as compared to 2020.
Two third of the 155 million people face hunger because their country is in military conflict.
Way forward
Governments must provide funding to response to hunger and social protection programs to save lives, rather than striking arms deals that lead to conflict, war and hunger.

Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen.
On her way she met a copy. The copy warned the Little Blind Text, that where it came from it would have been rewritten a thousand times and everything that was left from its origin would be the word “and” and the Little Blind Text should turn around and return to its own, safe country.
A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents.
But nothing the copy said could convince her and so it didn’t take long until a few insidious Copy Writers ambushed her, made her drunk with Longe and Parole and dragged her into their agency, where they abused her for their projects again and again. And if she hasn’t been rewritten, then they are still using her.

A collection of textile samples lay spread out on the table – Samsa was a travelling salesman – and above it there hung a picture that he had recently cut out of an illustrated magazine and housed in a nice, gilded frame. It showed a lady fitted out with a fur hat and fur boa who sat upright, raising a heavy fur muff that covered the whole of her lower arm towards the viewer.
Gregor then turned to look out the window at the dull weather. Drops of rain could be heard hitting the pane, which made him feel quite sad. “How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense”, he thought, but that was something he was unable to do because he was used to sleeping on his right, and in his present state couldn’t get into that position. However hard he threw himself onto his right, he always rolled back to where he was.
The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.
One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections.

Pathmeda Godham Mahatirth situated in Sanchor district of Rajasthan is the largest cowshed of the World.
The institution started in 1993 with 8 mother cows. In the year 1999, the number of cows was 90,000, in 2001, the number of cows increased to 1,76000, next year, this number touched 2,15,000, in 2003, it was 2,84,000, in 2004. The useful cow descendants are being distributed to the cow rearing persons in thousands of number every year.
In 1993, a humble saint , Sri Dutt Sharnanandji Maharaj, inspired from a leading saint of India, Ramsukh Dasji Maharaj started his journey to serve cows. He roamed throughout the country and noticed the status and agony of cows.
He further saw a few people who tried to sell 8 cows for some cruel purpose. This place was near Pathmeda, Sanchore, Rajasthan.
Starting a protest against it, he took the decision of starting a cow service here and hence came a Pathmeda Godham Mahatirth.
Dutt Sharnanandji’s vision is today inspiring many people to come forward and take this message forward.
Today many Indian states have banned cow slaughter, but the issue remains as controversial, as it was in the past. Cow is deeply associated with hindu religion. Lord Krishna was the saviour of cows and the devotees of Krishna always see cow as his companion.
