Nikki Haley, former UN ambassador, US, and two-term governor of South Carolina, is reportedly to declare her candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Nikki Haley will begin the campaign on February 15 in Charleston, South Carolina. After Donald Trump declared his presidential candidacy in November, Haley emerged as the second most prominent Republican contender.

Thus, the third Indian American to run for president would be Nikki Haley. Haley inherits Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, whose 2015 campaign never really took off. Kamala Harris, the current Vice President, is an Indian American who ran for President in 2020.

Nikki Haley gained a reputation as a business-friendly leader who prioritized luring large corporations to the state while serving as governor of South Carolina. Plus, she rose to national notoriety because of her efforts to stop the Confederate flag from flying above the state house in Columbia after the racially motivated mass massacre at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church in 2015.

Additionally, it would occur after Haley said in 2021 that she would support Trump once more and would not run against her former employer in a 2024 election.

However, Haley has been making frequent allusions to their candidacy for president. In a January interview with Fox News, she said that she may eventually succeed President Obama.

The oldest “marine crocodile” fossils have been found in the new research

In a recent study, researchers discovered one of the oldest crocodile fossils, a thalattosuchian, an ancient cousin of the crocodile family

A group of paleontologists discovered the “marine crocodile,” one of the oldest ancient crocodile fossils.

Taylor and Francis published the research.

Pathologists in the United Kingdom discovered the Turnersuchus hingleyae fossils, which included the backbone, head, and limbs.

Thus, the recently found fossils of Turnersuchus hingleyae are the only complete Thalattosuchian of this age. Dated back to the early Jurassic, Pliensbachian era, which was around 185 million years ago, and is the only complete Thalattosuchian of this age. According to research published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, a new fossil was found. Therefore, it fills a gap in the fossil record and shows that Turnersuchus, Thalattosuchians, and other crocodile-like species may have devolved around 15 million years earlier than previously thought.

It is conceivable that the discovered fossils bear a resemblance to the current gharial crocodiles because of their comparatively long, narrow snouts. However, the researchers have claimed that thalattosuchians may have a similar skull base as the Gharials, but both of them are structured differently.

Thus, the area of the skull where the jaw muscles are located was especially huge in the species, indicating that they possessed expanded jaw muscles that allowed for quick and large bites. Given that most of their food was likely fast-moving fish and cephalopods like squids and octopuses, this would have been helpful for their health.

Chambal: Once cursed by Draupadi, this river reminds of Maharabharat. Know why?

0

Do you know Chambal River flowing through Rajasthan and MP was once known as Charmawati river and was cursed by Draupadi during Maharabhat era?

This river basically comes with a mythological background to it, and has an interesting milieu of events and stories.

As per legends, the river originated from the blood of thousands of animals who were killed by King Rantideva. At that time, this river was known as Charmawati River. Then, there is also the Mahabharata connection as the story says that the dice game in Mahabharata between the Kauravas and Pandavas was played on the banks of this river.

This river in the epic is called as Charmawati. When Draupadi was disgraced, she cursed the river and said that anyone who drinks water from the river will be filled with a thirst for vengeance that would be unquenchable.

It was this legend of Draupadi’s curse on the river which kept people away from it for a long time.

Over the years, the name of Chambal used to strike fear in the hearts of people at one time as it was infamous for its ravines, the badlands ruled by dacoits. These ravines of Chambal also gave rise to India’s Bandit Queen, Phoolan Devi

Today, the Chambal River is home to two wildlife sanctuaries, both in Rajasthan, the Jawahar Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary and the National Chambal Sanctuary. Interestingly, the Chambal River is the only river that is home to two endangered species of animals, namely the Red-crown turtles and Gangetic river dolphins. Chambal is also home to many beautifule species of birds.

Trekking here in the ravines is also something of a novel experience.

The science behind sea erosion in Kozhikode

Kozhikode beach

The study shows the scientific spectrum of sea erosion in Kozhikode

The international organization recently announced the provision of an international “blue flag” tag for the cleanest and most environmentally friendly beaches. However, Kappad Beach is so far the only beach that has earned the International Blue Flag.

In the district of Kerala, Kappad Beach is located. Thus, at Kappad Beach, a team of scientists will study the reasons for sea erosion. The research will cover 3.5 kilometers, initiating in Thuvvappara and concluding in Valiyamangad.

Kozhikode’s coastline has been prone to erosion for more than 46 years. Nevertheless, the study was conducted by satellite. Thus, mining river sand and human activities like the construction of buildings and dam construction are the causes of erosion. The estuaries in the area control the sediments there.

It has been found that erosion had increased in Kozhikode beach after 2000. Over time, artificial coastal constructions, were constructed nearby. However, sea erosion progressively increased. One of the main reasons for coastal erosion is fishing harbor construction.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature, the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the United Nations Environmental Programme, and the Foundation for Environmental Education are among the groups that promote the blue flag tag. Every beach goes through 33 parameters to get the blue flag tag. One of the criteria for obtaining the Blue flag tag is the area’s bathing quality, environmental conservation maintained by the beach, beach preservation, and environmental education.

Adani Group claims the Hindenburg Report has “ulterior motives”

Amidst the allegations of “stock manipulation and accounting malpractice” made by Hindenburg Research, the Ahmedabad-based Adani Group dismissed all allegations, according to its rebuttal report.

The Adani Group had claimed that the research is “an attack on India and its independent institutions.”

The Adani group exclaimed various points in the rejoinder report and dismissed many allegations allegedly written in the Hindenburg report. According to the Group, the research is “baseless.”

On January 26th, the U.S. organization made a media statement, stating that they would “welcome” all the threats of legal action made by the group. Thus, following the media statement, this is the group’s first detailed response provided by millionaire Gautam Adani.

According to the short seller, the research is driven by many verified reports. The report was created as a result of a two-year investigation.
