As the political battleground heats up for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly Elections in 2023, a recent report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Rajasthan Election Watch sheds light on the financial standings of the current sitting MLAs. The analysis, based on affidavits submitted before the 2018 Assembly elections, unveils intriguing details about the financial assets, educational backgrounds, and criminal histories of the candidates.

According to the report, a staggering 79 percent of the sitting MLAs in the current Rajasthan Assembly are classified as crorepati legislators. Among these, 88 (81 percent) out of 108 MLAs from the Congress, 54 (78 percent) out of 69 MLAs from the BJP, 12 out of 14 Independent MLAs, and 2 out of 3 Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MLAs have declared assets worth over Rs 1 crore.

The analysis reveals some notable financial heavyweights in the political landscape. Congress leaders Parasram Mordia, Anjana Udailal, and Vishvendra Singh top the list with declared assets of Rs 172 crore, Rs 107 crore, and Rs 104 crore, respectively. Interestingly, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot have both declared assets worth Rs six crore each.

Breaking down the average assets per sitting MLA, the Congress leads with Rs 9.28 crores, followed by BJP with Rs 5.45 crores. The report also delves into the educational qualifications, highlighting that 30 percent of the MLAs have qualifications ranging from 5th pass to 12th pass, while 64 percent hold a graduate or higher educational qualification. Notably, seven MLAs have declared themselves as literate.

On the legal front, the report discloses that 23 percent of the sitting MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves, with 14 percent facing serious criminal charges. Shockingly, one MLA has declared cases related to murder (IPC section 302), while four have cases related to attempted murder (IPC section 307).

As Rajasthan gears up for the polls, the ADR and Rajasthan Election Watch report provides citizens with valuable insights into the financial backgrounds and legal histories of the candidates vying for their votes. The findings raise questions about the intersection of wealth, education, and legal issues in the political arena, sparking conversations about the transparency and accountability of elected representatives.

This Floating Church will leave you in awe of its beauty

Shettihalli Church, a 163-year-old Gothic masterpiece, also called as a Floating Church gracefully submerges in the backwaters of Hemavathi Dam, Karnataka, during monsoons only to rise again in summers revealing its architectural splendour.

The church remains a masterpiece in many ways. It is built on the banks of Hemavathi river in Shettihalli village of Hassan district (about a half hour from Bengaluru International Airport), and is the forgotten testament of the village’s past. A classic example of Gothic architecture, it is purported to have been constructed in 1860 by a French missionary named Abbe J A Dubois. The materials which were used in its construction were the ordinary brick and mortar, along with glass brought from Belgium, Egyptian gypsum, jaggery and eggshells.

Meanwhile times changed as the Gorur-Hemavathi dam was constructed over the river 1960 which uprooted all villages surrounding the area of the church. Since then, the land floods with water and enters the surviving skeletal frame of the building every year during peak monsoon (from June to October). Despite this, the church stands with about one-third of its structure above the water’s surface hence acquiring its name like ‘Floating Church’ and ‘Submerged Church’.

Celebration of Govardhan Puja and Annakoot Mahotsav at Shri Krishna Balram Temple, Jaipur

0

In a joyous celebration, the Shri Krishna Balram Temple in Jagatpura, Jaipur, marked the grand Govardhan Puja and Annakoot Mahotsav. The temple immersed in spiritual fervor created a colossal Govardhan mountain in its Vrindavan garden, adorned with fifty-six offerings. The tableau depicting Lord Govardhan’s Annakoot Leela graced the garden, accompanied by the adorned cows for cow worship within the temple premises.

The evening unfolded with a divine aura as the temple resonated with the chants of Harinam Sankirtan during the Deepotsav and Palki Utsav conducted at the time of the evening aarti. Following the mythological traditions, a special Annakoot was organized, offering the Annakoot Prasadam to all devotees visiting the temple.

Reflecting on the significance of Govardhan Leela, the President of Hare Krishna Movement Jaipur, Amitasan Das, shared insights into the age-old tradition that dates back to the Dwapar period. Lord Shri Krishna’s act of lifting the Govardhan Mountain on his finger to shield the residents of Vrindavan from Indra’s wrath stands as a timeless lesson on worship and devotion. It symbolizes the belief that worshipping Lord Krishna, who fulfills all desires and offers salvation from worldly sorrows, is paramount.

Amitasan Das urged devotees to embrace the tradition of chanting the holy name of God, emphasizing its cleansing effect akin to cleaning one’s home before Diwali. The chant “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare” holds the potential to cleanse the inner sanctum of the heart, fostering spiritual well-being.

As the festival resonates globally, the Govardhan Puja and Annakoot Mahotsav at Shri Krishna Balram Temple serve as a reminder of the enduring spiritual traditions and the teachings of Lord Krishna, encouraging devotees to embrace the divine mantra for inner purification. The temple authorities extend an invitation to share this uplifting event, urging newspapers to showcase the essence of the celebration.

How to perform Lakshmi puja in the right direction this Diwali

0

New Delhi, India: Diwali, the festival of lights, is around the corner and many people are preparing to perform Lakshmi puja, the ritual of worshipping the goddess of wealth and prosperity. But do you know the best direction to place the idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha, and the best direction to face while performing the puja?
According to Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture and design, the northeast corner of the house is the most auspicious for Lakshmi puja. The mandir or home temple in which the idols are placed should ideally face the east-west direction in the northeast corner so that the person performing the puja will face either east or west, which is considered to be good according to Vastu.
The idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha should be placed on a chowki or table, covered with a red cloth. Red is a sacred color that symbolizes energy, power, and prosperity. Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, should be worshipped first, followed by Lakshmi, the giver of wealth and abundance.
The idols should be placed in such a way that the face of Lakshmi is towards the north and the face of Ganesha is towards the south. This is because north is the direction of Kubera, the god of wealth, and south is the direction of success and fame. By placing the idols in this manner, one can attract the blessings of both Lakshmi and Kubera, as well as Ganesha.
The idols should also be adorned with flowers, jewellery, and coins. A plate of rice or wheat grains should be placed in front of the idols, as they represent abundance and nourishment. A kalash or pot filled with water and decorated with mango leaves and a coconut should also be placed near the idols, as it symbolizes the source of life.
The puja should be performed with devotion and gratitude, using incense, lamps, camphor, and other items. The puja should also include the recitation of mantras, such as the Lakshmi Gayatri mantra and the Lakshmi Ashtottara Shatanamavali, which are the 108 names of Lakshmi. The puja should end with the offering of prasad, which is the food offered to the deities, and the distribution of the same to the family members and guests.
By performing Lakshmi puja in the right direction, one can invite the goddess of wealth and prosperity into their home and life, and celebrate Diwali with joy and happiness.
