Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra in Ajmer: Who built it and why was it named with four words?
Adhai Din Ka Jhopra is a Sanskrit college-turned-mosque with an interesting tale behind it. As per the legends, its structure was built in just two and a half days and hence comes the name which means a structure created in 2.5 days.
The building originally was a Sanskrit college later converted into a mosque by Mohammad Ghori in 1198 A.D. The mosque is surrounded by a wall with 7 arches on which Quran verses have been inscribed. The mosque, designed by Abu Bakr of Herat, is an example of early Indo-Islamic architecture.
