Jyoti Nayal, student of Saksham Sanchar Foundation shared her experience of travelling to Mahadev Mukteshwar Temple.
Last year I visited the One of the most famous Temple of Uttrakhand .
The journey was full of adventure, fun,and religious. The weather is very calm and pleasant and has few steps to climb as it is situated on the hills .
There are many mythological stories about the Temple. The temple houses idols of Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma along with a white marble Shiva Linga with a Copper yoni. The Mukteshwar temple is believed to be one of the 18 most important Shiva temples in the world.
Way : The temple complex is an ideal place for meditation. You can either drive to the temple or chose to trek. It’s not a well paved trekking trail but a narrow mud path through the fruit orchards and coniferous forest that locals use. A beautiful nature walk of around 2 hours will take you to hill top. It’s an easy trek and easily be done by the beginners .
When I visited in June, the forest was lush green and the path was covered by brown dry pine needles that made it slippery. So we needed to be extra careful.
Apart from the temple — one can also visit a rock named ‘Chauli Ka Jali’, located near the temple which is used for rock climbing and rappelling.
With lush green trails and narrow lanes, Mukteshwar is a popular destination for trekking, apart from rock climbing and rappeling . Major attractions here are the picturesque orchards, coniferous forests, rolling meadows, and little cottages and homes built in quaint colonial style. As it is located on a high hill, there are ample opportunities for clicking some beautiful pictures of the low-lying regions from here.
