International Women’s Day 2022: Significance, history, theme, colour and quotes

The International Women’s Day is being celebrated since years all over the world each year on March 8. Women’s Day is indeed a necessity to celebrate the achievements of women in every field. Whether they are house wife or an employee or an entrepreneur, they have been making society better since ages with their determination. 

Hence, the day is celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm in every corner of the world. It is celebrated to spread the message of gender equality for making a better society. It is the day when women celebrate being themselves, recognising their struggles in their day to day lives and remembering how they have emerged as winners.

Women’s Day 2022 History

Women’s Day is celebrated since 1911. In 1908, women  inequality, harassment and discrimination triggered the need to start a campaign rising a need to bring a change in the society. At that time, around 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York demanding implementation of women rights and their freedom. 

In the following year, a political party of America declared 28th February as National Women’s Day. But in the year 1910, a women named Clara Zetkin floated an idea for International Women’s Day. Clara Zetkin proposed her idea by saying that in every country, women are fighting for their rights in some manner, then why Women’s Day is celebrated just at national level. Hence the world started to celebrate Women’ Day every year since then on March 8. First time, an International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 8 in 4 countries namely Denmark, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. 

International Women’s Day 2022 Colours

There are a few colours that symbolise Women’s Day celebration. Purple, green and white are the colours of International Women’s Day. Purple symbolize justice, Green symbolize hope and White signifies purity. But now Purple has become the official colour of International Women’s Day. 

International Women’s Day 2022 Theme 

This year, the theme is to create a gender equal world. The theme is chosen for the equality of women in any field and in every aspect of life. The hashtag for this year is #choosetochallenge and #IWD2022. So being an active human being, we all should use this hashtag to bring a change in society.
