PM Narendra Modi is being wished across from political leaders as he celebrates his 71st birthday on September 17 this year.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi turned 71 on September 17. As he went on about his duties, wishes from UP CM Yogi Adityanath and President Ram Nath Kovind to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Digvijaya Singh started pouring on Twitter.
Some 50 million postcards thanking PM for his “pro-people welfare” schemes, film screenings and exhibitions on his life, blood donation camps, cleanliness and vaccination drives have been planned by the Bharatiya Janata Party to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday.
PM Modi’s interests since childhood
Narendra Damodardas Modi was always a keen debater with a gift of rhetoric, who preferred to play larger-than-life characters, which influences his political image now as well.
Modi started his political career by being appointed general secretary of the “Gujarat Lok Sangharsh Samiti”, an RSS committee co-ordinating opposition to the Emergency in Gujarat. It was, later, banned, and Modi was forced to go underground in disguise to avoid arrest. He also raised funds for political refugees and activists.
In 1978, he became an RSS regional organiser, and was assigned to the BJP in 1985, where he rose within the party and was promoted to BJP general secretary.
Becoming Chief Minister of Gujarat
In 2001, BJP lost a few state assembly seats in by-elections. So, its national leadership sought a new candidate for the chief ministership, and Modi, was chosen. On 3 October 2001, he replaced Patel as Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Prime Minister of India
In September 2013 Modi was named the BJP’s candidate for Prime Minister ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha election. It won 31% of the vote, and more than doubled its tally in the Lok Sabha to 282, becoming the first party to win a majority of seats on its own since 1984.
Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi, born on September 17, 1950, Modi turns 71 this year.
Modi served as a chief minister of Gujarat from 2001-2014 and is currently serving India as it’s Prime minister since 2014.
Narendra Modi was born in Vadnagar, Gujarat. He was the third child in his family six siblings. Modi belonged to a backward community, Modh-Ghanchi-Teli. During his childhood Modi, it is said that Modi helped his father by selling tea and later on he himself ran a tea stall near a bus station.
Modi was never a very bright student in studies but had a keen interest in debating and theatre which was very much noticeable. Modi completed his higher secondary education in 1967. After that, at the age of eight, Modi joined the RSS(Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) where he met his first political mentor, Vakil Saheb. While training here, he met the founding leaders of BJP and was assigned to BJP by RSS in 1985.
During 1975 , when the state of emergency was declared in India, RSS was banned. During this period, Modi wrote a book, ‘Sangharsh Ma Gujarat’, narrating about the events that happened during the emergency.
And finally in 1985, RSS assigned Modi to BJP. In 1987, Modi successfully organised a campaign of BJP in Ahmedabad municipal elections, and BJP won as a result of Modi’s planning. Soon after, Modi was given a significant position in BJP’s Gujarat unit. He worked hard under BJP proving his worth as a good politician and was named a member of the BJP’s National Election Committee in 1990. Again, in 1995 state assembly election, BJP won because of Modi’s successful strategies. And in November 1995, Modi was elected as the National secretary of BJP.
In 2001, October 7, Modi was officially elected as the chief minister of Gujarat and on 24 February, 2002 he entered Gujarat state legislature by winning the election in the Rajkot-ll constituency This was possible that time due to Keshubhai Patel’s failing health and poor public image following the earthquake in Bhuj. And since 2001, he served Gujarat as its chief minister till 2014. His work for Gujarat resulted in economic growth and has been appreciated by many.
On 26 May, 2014, after winning the election in Lok Sabha, he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India. Modi became the first prime minister to be ever born after the Independence. Modi again won the elections in 2019 and became the 4th longest serving Prime Minister of India.
In 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2020, he was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. Forbes magazine ranked him as the 15th Most Powerful Person in the World in 2014 and the 9th Most Powerful Person in the World in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Modi is the second most followed politician on twitter and facebook. In October 2018, Modi received United Nations’s highest environmental award, the ‘Champions of the Earth’. These are just few of his achievements but during his whole journey, he has been winning enormous awards as a leader.

PM Narendra was born on the 17th of September, 1950; three years after India gained its Independence. This made him first PM who was born in independent India. Here comes 5 lessons to be learnt from his childhood life.
Learnt work-life balance right from childhood: Narendra Modi’s formative years taught him early tough lessons as he balanced his studies, non-academic life to spare time to work at the family owned Tea Stall as the family struggled to make ends meet.
An ardent reader: Schoolmates recollect how Mr. Modi used to spend many hours reading in the local Library. He had a curiosity to read books
A child who had an affinity to debate: Modi school friends remember him as a child who was very industrious and had an affinity for debates.
A swimmer: As a child, Modi was also fond of swimming.
Influenced by Swami Vivekananda: As a child also he always felt a strong urge to make a difference to society. He was highly influenced by the works of Swami Vivekananda which laid the foundation of his journey towards spiritualism and which inspired him to pursue the mission to fulfill Swamiji’s dream of making India a Jagat Guru.
His different dreams: Modi’s thoughts and dreams as a child were quite different from how most children of his age thought. Perhaps it was the influence of Vadnagar which once used to be a vibrant center of Buddhist learning and spirituality many centuries ago.
Chilhood spent in small house: The third child born to Damodardas Modi and Hiraba Modi, Modi comes from a family of humble origins and modest means. The entire family lived in a small single storey house which was approximately 40 feet by 12 feet.
At the age of 17 he left home to travel across India. For two years, he travelled across the expansive landscape of India exploring various cultures. When he returned home he was a changed man with a clear aim of what he wanted to achieve in life. He went to Ahmedabad and joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a socio-cultural organisation working towards the social and cultural regeneration of India.
It was a tough routine for Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad since 1972 when he became a Pracharak for RSS. His day began at 5 am and went on till late night. Late 1970s also saw a young Narendra Modi join the movement to restore Democracy in India which was reeling under Emergency.
This man, with a vision and mission, became the PM of India, giving a lesson to youths that nothing is impossible if we learn through our struggle.

World Ozone Day is celebrated every year on 16th September as an International Day for the preservation of Ozone layer. Around 36 years back, the great minds across the world started thinking how to heal the Ozone layer which were shocked to find a hole in it. See how they worked together to bring a difference…
What is Ozone Layer and its importance
We all know that life on this earth would not have been possible without sunlight but its energy emerging from the sun is very strong for us to bear it and it is only possible because of the ozone layer that we can survive on this planet and get the right amount of sunlight while being shielded from its harmful effects. The ozone is a fragile sheet of gas that protects earth from the harmful UV rays. The presence of Ozone layer is very important for the humankind on Earth.
World Ozone Day History
Back in 1970s when some scientists were working on ozone layer, they found out that the humanity is creating a big hole in this protective shield that can destroy our planet in near future. They informed the whole world about this issue. The hole was caused because of the excessive pollution on Earth, and because of the ozone depleting gases such as (CFCs) and (HFCs) used in air conditioners and refrigerators. The humanity was well informed about the threats that this hole can cause; the less protection from ozone layer can cause skin cancer , cataract and damage in the ecosystem.
World Ozone Day: Montreal Protocol
The Montreal Protocol was a global agreement which started for the protection of ozone layer and is in run today too. It has done a wonderful job for the protection of humanity and became the most successful global agreement till date. Montreal Protocol came into existence with an aim to protect the ozone layer by controlling total global production and consumption of substances that deplete it. And a big thanks to this protocol that the ozone layer is healing.
World Ozone Day: Vienna Convention:
In 1985, the world’s government adopted Vienna Convention for the protection of Ozone layer under the Montreal Protocol. Convention protocol was adopted and signed by 28 countries, on 22 March 1985. In September 1987, under the Convention’s Montreal Protocol, governments, scientists and industry worked together to cut out 99 per cent of all ozone-depleting substances.
This year, we are celebrating the 36th successful year of the achievements by the Montreal Protocol and Vienna convention. And the very existence of celebration September 16th as World Ozone Day was to celebrate these achievements. This day reminds the humankind the importance of Ozone layer and how important it is to protect it at all cost.
