Leena Nair: The first female, first Asian, youngest ever CHRO of Unilever

Leena Nair, a British Indian business executive and first female CEO of the French luxury brand Chanel and the first female and youngest-ever Chief Human Resources Officer of Unilever is 52 year old lady.

French luxury group Chanel has named Leena Nair, the chief human resource officer of Unilever as its global CEO. This makes Nair the second Indian Origin woman to take over as a global CEO after Indra Nooyi.

She joins the ranks of Indian Origin executives like Sundar Pichai, Parag Agrawal and Satya Nadela who are at the helm of Top global companies. A British national, born in India, Nair is a rare outsider at the helm of the tightly controlled family fashion house which was founded in 1910 by fashion legend Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel as a hat boutique on rue Cambon in Paris and grew to become a byword for French chic.

Nair, who studied at Holy Cross Convent School in Kolhapur and passed out as an engineer in electronics and telecommunications from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, opted to pursue HR, much to the dismay of her father (an industrialist from Kolhapur). That was a major turning point for Nair, who decided to follow her heart. After joining HUL as a management trainee in 1992, Nair worked in various roles in factories, sales and the corporate headquarters in HUL.

She brought about several changes and rose through the ranks to become executive director HR. In 2016, she went on to become the first woman as well as Asian and the youngest-ever CHRO of Unilever and member of the Unilever Leadership Executive, with responsibility for the company’s 150,000 people across more than 100 countries globally.


In her social media posts, Nair described India-born former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi as a friend and mentor.

  1. Bhangrah Fort India

The fort of Bhangarh is located between the city of Jaipur and Alwar, 50 kilometers from the Sariska Sanctuary. Constructed in the 17th century by Raja Madho Singh, the younger brother of the great Mughal general, Man Singh of Amber, the fort houses remnants of grand havelis, temples and deserted marketplaces within its premises, indicating the fort’s prosperity in its heydays.

Besides the royal palace, Bhangarh had over 9,000 houses until 1720 after which gradually diminished. Thought to be a haunted place, Bhangarh fort nevertheless attracts hordes of tourists owing to its serene atmosphere, picturesque Aravalli Mountains and the architectural marvel that it is.
Bhangarh Fort is one such place, where you will even get to see signboards, warning that you should not remain there after sunset. When you are here, you might marvel at its majestic architecture, yet many say they are burdened with a sense of anxiety, and they often feel anxious and restless. Some visitors even pointed out that they get a weird sense of paranoia as if somebody is following them around. The place was used as a quarantine station for people suffering from bubonic plague in the 20th century, and later, as a mental asylum in the 1920s. Bollywood star couple Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary on January 17.

The couple on January 17, 2001, had tied the knot in a private ceremony and now they are parents to two children–son Aarav and daughter Nitara.

Actor-turned-author Twinkle Khanna along with her actor husband celebrated the 21st anniversary of their wedding on Monday. Twinkle took to Instagram to share a photo of them together.

Twinkle said that she and Akshay had a chat on their special day in which they spoke about their differences. Twinkle said that they are different and hence she is not sure if she would not even talk to Akshay if they met at a party today.

Udaipur: The tourist city is a haven for wooden toys too!

Udaipur is a big centre for wooden toys which are made using the local wood ‘doodhia’ which is soft and can be finely chiselled and shaped.

These toys are lacquered and polished with leaves of a flowering cactus to give them a better look and increase their life.

The large variety of toys made in Udaipur include the cart drawn by a sparrow, kitchen sets, grinder, cradle on a stand, gas lantern, gramophones, trains, cars, jeeps, aeroplanes, counting stands, and clock towers.

The wooden toys also include animal figures such as horses, camels, and elephants.

There is another place near Udaipur called as Bassi which falls in Chittorgarh district. It is another famous centre for wooden toys where the entire village is engaged in wood-carving and in making wooden products.

Jaipur too is very well known for cloth dolls and toys which are generally dyed and stuffed with waste material. These toys are beautifully decorated with colourful paper with expression writ large on their faces.

Javed Akhtar is renowned song writer and poet called as the ‘scribbler of verses’ who turned a year older on January 17.

His songs bring in emotions and hence they stay remain evergreen. Born on 17 January 1945 in the Gwalior city of Madhya Pradesh, he was born to Jan Nisar Akhtar and Safia Akhtarwas. While his faher is a Bollywood film songwriter and poet, his mother was a singer and songwriter.

Rock arts are man-made paintings on natural surface or on stones which are highly sophisticated way of expressing complex beliefs about the supernatural world.   1. Apollo 11 Cave, South-Western Namibia: In Africa it is considered as the most ancient rock art. Seven grey-brown quartzite slabs, each smaller than an adult hand, were found with images drawn in charcoal and ochre during excavations in the cave in 1969 by German archaeologist W.E. Wendt. The discovery occurred at the time of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, and the shelter was given the same name to celebrate the momentous event. 
  1. Sulawesi Cave, Indonesia: Archaeologists have discovered the world’s oldest known cave art — a life-sized picture of a wild pig that was painted at least 45,500 years ago in Indonesia. The cave painting uncovered in South Sulawesi consists of a figurative depiction of a warty pig, a wild boar that is endemic to this Indonesian island.

Lepakshi Temple situated in Andhra Pradesh has many stories to speak. It has a hanging pillar and a giant footprint which many people believe to be of Hanuman, while others say it is Sita’s footprint. Located in the southeastern part of India, Lepakshi temple is as a prime location to worship Veerabhadra. This temple is also known as Veerabhadra Temple and is situated in the tiny hamlet of Anantpur District of Andhra Pradesh.

The intricate carvings and massive structure of this temple leave everyone spellbound.  Rich in architecture and art, this temple is famous for its hanging pillars and cave chambers.  It is designed in typical Vijayanagra architecture.

Out of these 70 pillars, there is one pillar which hangs from the ceiling. The base of pillar doesn’t touch the ground and this pillar is bit dislocated from its original position. One can easily pass the paper and a thin cloth from one side to another which makes us wonder. 
Lepakshi is village which is known because of Ramyana. Villagers say that the bird Jatayu (the son of Aruna and a nephew of Garuda) had fallen here after the battle against the Ravana. When Rama reached the spot, he saw the bird and humanly said to him, “Le Pakshi” which means  “Arise, bird”.
