Maharashtra’s new accidental yet powerful CM, Mr Eknath Shinde, who led a revolt against Shiv Sena, took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 30th June.

Eknath Shinde’s journey had slow beginnings. Now he is heading the state of Maharashtra.

Who is Eknath Shinde?

Born in Maharashtra’s Satara on February 9, 1964, Eknath Sambhaji Rao Shinde belongs to the Maratha community. His family shifted to Thane in search of income and means to live. Eknath Sindhe completed his education until class 11 in Thane.

He has done several things to support his family. His journey was humble from an ordinary person to CM of Maharashtra.

1. Shinde used to be an auto driver in Thane. He arrived in Mumbai as a teenager from Satara in Maharashtra and joined the Shiv Sena.

2. He started his career as a working leader in Maharashtra agitation and for this he was accused of imprisonment for 40 days. Shinde’s first key political position was as the corporator of Thane Municipal Corporation in 1997.

3. Shinde was elected as the leader of the TMC and he continued to secure the post till 2004.In 2004, Bala Saheb Thackeray offered him an opportunity to stand for assembly elections. His political journey then started taking shape and he then started getting famous with his work for the Shiv Sena. When Bal Thackeray Nephew Raj quit the Sena, Shinde’s position became even stronger.

4. 2004, made a major change to Shinde’s Political Career. Shinde has been elected 4 times in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly: 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.

5. His brother and son are also in politics. His son Shrikant Shinde is Loksabha MP from Kalyan and Shinde’s brother Prakash Shinde is a counselor.

Olympic-bound star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has really come a long way. He is the man who sets and breaks his own records. In his impressive career, gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has already erased several records, both national and global, to bring glory to the nation.

Neeraj Chopra’s first competitive event after just over 10 months was nothing extraordinary as he touched the coveted 90M mark, considered the gold standard in the world of javelin throw.Only in his early twenties, this Tokyo Olympics champion is barely at his peak.

Let’s take a look at Neeraj Chopra’s records

1. He is the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic medal in Tokyo 2020.

2. Neeraj Chopra had secured another entry for himself in the history books as the final throw was taken by him at the Tokyo Olympics.

3. Neeraj Chopra is the first Indian athlete to set a record of 86.48m, World U20 Championships 2016.

4. Neeraj Chopra’s spectacular throw of 86.48m at the junior championships in Poland also raised the bar and set the new under-20 world record by beating the record of 84.69m made by the previous Olympian, Latvia’s Zigismunds Sirmais.

5. His record of 86.48m made at Bydgoszcz is constant in the U20 world record and the U20 Asian record in the javelin throw.

6. Neeraj Chopra first set the national record during the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati, where he managed to score 82.23m and claimed gold.

7. Neeraj Chopra’s best attempt came at the Diamond League 2022 in Sweden on June 30, 2022, where he broke his own record by throwing the javelin to 89.94m and establishing a new national record.

8. He also won the gold medal in the Asian Games 2020 in Jakarta with an attempt of 88.06m.9. In 2017, he won a gold medal with an attempt of 85.23m

9. Before him, Gurtej Singh in 1982 was the only men’s javelin thrower from the country to win a bronze medal and now Neeraj Chopra became the first man to win gold.

This man is really unstoppable. He received Khel Ratna Award by Respected President of the Country in November 2021 for his historic win.

The Hague: Hockey India has announced the 18-member women’s team for the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup to be held in Netherlands and Spain from 1st of next month.

India grouped in Pool B along with England, New Zealand and China will begin their campaign on 3rd of next month against nemesis England.

Ace goalkeeper Savita will be captain of Indian women’s team while Deep Grace Ekka will be vice captain.

The India will play their group stage matches in Amstelveen and if they top the group, they will play the quarter-finals too in the same municipality.

India will then move to Terrassa, Spain, for the semi-finals and the final. The crossover matches for pool B will be played in Spain.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani has resigned as Director of Reliance Jio effective from 27 June 2022.

The working arm of Reliance Industries, Reliance Jio Infocomm Pvt Ltd Announced that Ambani is stepping down from the chair of Director and transferring all the leadership to his elder son Aakash Ambani.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, in a regulatory filing, said the company’s board at a meeting, “approved the appointment of Akash M Ambani, non-executive director, as chairman of the board of directors of the company.”

Pankaj Mohan Pawar will take over as the Managing Director of the company from 27 June, according to the decisions taken at Jio’s Board of Directors meeting held on Monday, 27 June, 2022.

According to the data collected from January 1, 2022 to June 23, 2022, on the search topics related to famous Asian personalities through Google, it is found that the list is dominated by Indian actors, singers and Korean BTS members.

Late Punjabi Singer secured 3rd position while sensational Urfi Javed beat Kangna Ranaut and Kiara Advani by securing 57th position.Particularly the most handsome among BTS members, V dominated the list by securing 1st rank.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has brought performance standards for batteries being used in electric vehicles, after the recurring incidents of fire.

BIS released standard test specifications for lithium-ion traction battery packs and systems (performance testing) for vehicles.
Standard IS 17855:2022 was created for these battery packs and systems has been harmonised with ISO 12405-4: 2018.
BIS is in process to publish two more standards for batteries, that will be used in electric goods and passenger carrying vehicles.

IS 17855:2022 standard is formulated after considering real-life scenarios for the electric vehicle, such as parked vehicle, battery running at low & high temperatures, and battery system shipped (stored).

Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles operate on rechargeable batteries and electric motor. Safety and performance are two critical aspects of these vehicles.

Fire incidents in electric two-wheeler

Union Road Transport and highways Ministry has tasked the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), to investigating electric two-wheeler fire incidents. These defects occurred as electric two-wheeler manufacturers such as Pure EV, Jitendra Electric Vehicles, Okinawa Autotech, Boom Motors and Ola Electric may have used “lower-grade materials to cut costs”.

BIS is the National Standards Body of India, working under Department of Consumer affairs of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. BIS was established by Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The Minister in charge of Ministry is the ex-officio President of BIS.

Odisha launches Siren project to alert Elephant movement

Odisha’s Dhenkanal forest department will install automatic sirens near the national highway to protect elephants from accidents.

About Elephant Siren Project

Under this project, Siren tower will be put in the elephant prone areas which will start blaring, when elephants will cross the road for alerting drivers within a distance of up to 1km.
As soon as elephants arrive, the siren will ring and red light will be on.
Forest officer will also receive a message regarding this on his mobile phone.

Who initiated this project?

The pilot project started by ‘Change’, a voluntary organization that works in the field of elephant protection, will work in collaboration with Dhenkanal Forest Department for protecting elephants. This project has been implemented in Rasasingh area under Dhenkanal Sadar Range, for the first time which is an elephant-prone area. The elephant siren project has been started near Rasasingh and Haldiabahal, along the Dhenkanal-Anugul National Highway 55, on experimental basis.

Where will siren be installed?

The siren tower will be located along National Highway 55 and shall have a red light with a sensor as well as a siren machine.

Significance of the project

The elephant siren project is significant, as it will make elephants safe and the forest dwellers can also stay protected from elephant attacks.
