AWWA: All committed for welfare of spouses, children and dependents of Army personnel…

0

The 60s decade witnessed the war where many soldiers fought bravely and many sacrificed their lives for nation. At that time, gender equality was not much prevalent and women were unaware of their rights. The army wives battled frequent transfers of their husbands serving the nation. The social insecurity was much prevalent and there was not adequate welfare programme for the army wives.

In order to support Army wives and their children emotionally, economically and morally, an Indian Non profit organisation named AWWA was established in 1966 by Mrs. Shakuntala Bhatia to rehabilitate war widows and battle casualties.

AWWA Supports :

‘Aahwan’ is working towards making war widows self-reliant by providing an opportunity to Veer naris to exhibit and sell their products.

AWWA established 36 ASHA schools for children with special needs.

How are cheetahs doing at Kuno?

0

How are the Cheetahs doing at Kuno Palpur? They are still within the quarantine zone which is a large open grassland habitat fenced from all sides where the overseas guests roam around, say officials.

They hunt Spotted Deer released within their precincts. They will enjoy luxury of such wild feed to be bagged by them for couple of more months. It is to enable them acclamatize with the local ecological factors and try to forget the conditions of their native habitat in Namibia. Soon that they will be let loose in open fields of Kuno to roam wherever they like to race to find own feed and start a new wilderness life in India.

Lauri Marker, founder of Cheetah Conservation Foundation in Namibia, conveyed to her Indian counterparts: we have done our job from Namibia. “If you need more Cheetahs, they will be offered. Try South Africa and other neigbouring countries to receive more Cheetahs.”

She was the one who flew to Gwalior in a specially designed aircraft carrying cheetahs for Kuno. She has been to India several times over past two decades to negotiate on cheetahs entry in to India. She is now happy her objective was fulfilled.

By the time, the present lot of eight Cheetahs assume normalcy in Kuno’s wilderness, a new  momentum for importing more cheetahs from Africa will start gathering speed. The Union Environment Ministry has  an action plan  to introduce 50 more Cheetahs in India in the next five years. Not all will be billed for Kuno. So where else?

The States may put in their requests to allocate their quota of cheetahs for next reintroduction drive. Madhya Pradesh’s quota appears full through Kuno. Next in race has been Rajasthan which missed the bus this time. Its Mukundara Reserve was selected as an ideal grassland habitat. Lauri Marker visited it during July 2022. Will it receive some Cheetahs in the next allotment order of the Union Government?

The Cheetah controversy has not died so far. Eight scientists of international stature have unleashed fiery criticism of Union Government over Cheetahs having been imported in India from Namibia. Arjun M. Gopalaswamy, Femke Broekhuis, Leili Khalatbari, Michael G. L. Mills, Ravi Chellam, David Thuo, Abi Tamim Vanak and K. Ullas Karanth, have  said that India’s plan is based on three unsubstantiated claims — that cheetahs have run out of space in Africa; that India currently has sufficient and suitable space for them; and that conservation translocations have been successful in wild cheetah range restoration efforts.

They have written an article titled “Introducing African cheetahs to India is an ill-advised conservation attempt”, published in Nature Ecology and Evolution,  to highlight that there are “unknown ecological, disease-related and genetic risks involved in replacing Asiatic cheetahs with the larger cheetahs from southern Africa.” They added: “The action plan appears to have substantially overestimated cheetah carrying capacity in the first release site (Kuno National Park), which is unfenced, harbouring about 500 feral cattle and surrounded by a forested landscape with 169 human settlements. Neither Kuno nor the other landscapes considered are of the size and quality to permit self-sustaining and genetically viable cheetah populations.”

How to douse such heat? Political pundits feel the Bhartiya Janta Party Government at the Centre will like to use the Cheetahs  as a new politico-wilderness-model to convince the Indian populace over its uncanny decisive stand and try to receive greater vote-support.  Let the Lion remain at Gir. Cheetahs as a new ploy?

Cheetah’s future at  Kuno Palpur National Park is in their own hands and cannot be forecast by any expert as it is a new species to India and none has any past experience with it. Introduction or re-introduction experiments are need of the day. Wait and watch is the best advice, said Harsh Vardhan, renowned wildlife expert.

Maangarh Dham in Banswara is a witness to brutal genocide of 1500 tribals…

0

The Maangadh Dham is located in Banswara district (Rajasthan), Maangarh is a hilly area and this place share its border with Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Recently the PM paid tribute to Govind Guru for his historical, spiritual, and social contribution.

Maangarh hill is the witness of the battle and the brutal genocide of more than 1500 tribals on 17th November, 1913. .The gathering of tribals and forest dwellers in 1913 in Maangarh against the British Raj was being led by social reformer Govind Guru. He lost his family but he never gave up in his life for struggle.

The unsung heroes of tribal community who never take a minute to dedicate their life for the sake of their motherland, thousands of women freedom fighter who gave courageous introduction in the battle, unfortunately are still unknown for us. The government is continuously making efforts to develop Maangarh as historical place.

Rajasthan as well as Gujarat share large amount of diversity in tribal communities. Govind guru spent his last days in Gujarat. He was not only a freedom fighter but a philosopher,  spiritual teacher, intelligentsia thinker, social reformer and a public leader.

Importance of tribals:

This was not the only battle in which we can see the dedication of tribals. The Insurgence has already taken place before  1857 revolt in tribal Society.  The list is here:

* 1780 witnessed of “BATTLE of DAMIN” led by Tilka majhi in santhal.

* In 1830 and 1832 Larka movement.

* The vital importance of Birsa Munda in very young age.

* Alluri sitaramraju -Ramppa revolt (Andhra Pradesh)

The great contribution of tribals with Maharna Pratap in Rajasthan.

India’s past, history, present and future is incomplete without tribal communities. Unfortunately their contribution is not well mentioned in history. But for this Government led the programme for unsung heroes so that they get respect. 15th November is the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda which is celebrated as “JANJATIYA DIWAS” every year. Various steps have been taken by the Government like special museum of tribals to recall their thoughts, inspiration and social concern.  Various schemes like Van dhan yojana, van bandhu kalyan yojana, eklavya school  have introduced for employment, basic amenities and education respectively. From Rajasthan and Gujarat state , the eastern states and Odisha contribute a vast diversity of tribal communities.

We need to work with dedication to bring those unsung heroes into limelight, to glorify their pride, in order to compensate for the injustice that has been done with them.

Digital currency: Know what it is and more on its features

0

What exactly is digital currency?

This must be a question you are searching for since the time Government of India announced the launch of digital currency.

The launching of the Central Bank Digital Currency, a digital form of legal tender, issued by Reserve Bank of India, marks the beginning of digital currency in India.

There are questions doing the round whether the digital currency can be exchanged for fiat currency i.e. the Indian rupee.

And the answer is yes. It can be one-for-one as it is a digital form of Fiat currency.

If you have doubts that will it be available to all, the answer is it will be initially available for the wholesale segment. Also it will be extended to the retail category in a month. RBI experts said that a pilot project for retail e-rupee will start within a month in select locations in closed user groups.

Using the digital rupee in the wholesale segment is expected to make the interbank market more efficient, says RBI.

Is Digital currency different from cryptocurrency?

0

CBDC is a digital or virtual currency, however, it is not comparable to any private virtual currencies like cryptocurrency.

This is because private virtual currencies do not represent any person’s debt or liabilities as no issuer exists.

Also, the government has announced that private cryptocurrencies can never be a legal tender. The RBI has been strongly opposing private cryptocurrencies as they could have implications on national security and financial stability. However, this is not the case with digital currency and hence they are different.

Gujarat lions fail to reach Kuno, but cheetahs from Namibia reach this MP National Park…Know history

0

Cheetahs from Namibia have reached Kuno National Park in MP and we have celebrated it big…

But do we know that it has been more than three decades since the Government of India sought views of some State Governments to find ways and means for relocating the Asiatic Lions from Gir Reserve in Gujarat to other forest reserves in the country. Reason? All eggs need not be in one basket – entire population of Lions at Gir could face an unforeseen calamity in nature so some Lions be translocated elsewhere at appropriate habitats!

Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan States took lead and identified several alternate habitats to be found suitable to receive the Lions from Gir. Kuno Palpur Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh was adjudged as the most ideal forest  to become second home for Lions in India.

But Gujarat State continued to resist for more than a decade the logical move of reintroduction of Lions considering it would lose its monopoly over the big wild cat.  In April 2013, the Indian Supreme Court ordered Gujarat to send some of their Gir lions to Madhya Pradesh to establish a second population. The court gave wildlife authorities six months to complete the transfer.

Kuno was upgraded to status of a National Park; its protected area was increased to 413 sq., km. About 1,650 inhabitants of 24 villages were resettled to sites outside the protected area. An area of 924 sq., km, surrounding the wildlife sanctuary, was added as a buffer zone to human settlements.

As hopes floated for Lions to reach Kuno, but political thinking underwent certain changes as the then Union Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh saw new mileage in the Cheetahs  – India’s population had become extinct in early fifties, so fetch them from an African country. In 2009, Kuno was proposed as a possible site for cheetah reintroduction but the passage of arrival took long time as eight cheetahs reached Kuno in mid September 2022, air lifted from Namibia. India hailed it as addition of a wild cat species that had become extinct some seventy years ago!

The call for Lions has not remain unheard. Gujarat’s pride was to be maintained high – for Lions as well. So during January 2022,  the Union Government drafted a 25-year plan for Lions to be relocated within Gujarat state and not in other states. It is on record that the Gujarat Government did not carry out the Supreme Court’s order since 2013. It has been resisting  the relocation of Lions outside Gujarat. According to Bhopal-based environmentalist Ajay Dubey plans to reintroduce African cheetahs in Kuno National Park is another way to escape the transfer of Lions to the Kuno National Park.
