This 250 years old Great Banyan Tree give the appearance of a complete forest

0

In the heart of the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden near Kolkata (Calcutta), India, stands a remarkable natural wonder known as the Great Banyan Tree. This ancient tree, over 250 years old, covers an astounding 4.67 acres of land, making it the widest tree in the world. It is 80 feet tall. The tree’s botanical name is Ficus benghalensis, and it is native to India.

From a distance, the Great Banyan Tree appears as an entire forest, a visual illusion created by its 3,600 aerial roots. These roots descend from the branches, anchoring themselves into the ground and giving rise to the appearance of multiple individual trees. This unique characteristic is what makes the Great Banyan Tree so extraordinary.

In the 19th century, two devastating cyclones caused significant damage to the tree, leading to a fungal attack that necessitated the removal of its main trunk, which was 15.7 meters wide (51 feet). Despite this loss, the tree has continued to thrive. The clonal colony of the tree remains healthy, supported by its vast network of aerial roots.

To accommodate visitors and offer a full view of this magnificent tree, a 330-meter-long road was constructed around its circumference. However, the Great Banyan Tree has continued to grow, now spreading over 450 meters in circumference, showcasing its relentless expansion year after year.

The Great Banyan Tree is not alone in its grandeur. India is home to several other large banyan trees, each with its own unique story and significance. These include the Old Banyan in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, the Gigantic Banyan Tree in Ranthambore National Park, and the Big Banyan in Bangalore.

The Great Banyan Tree stands as a testament to nature’s resilience and grandeur, offering a serene and awe-inspiring experience to all who visit. It is not just a tree but a living legacy, embodying the rich biodiversity and natural beauty of India.

Gautam Gambhir Appointed as New Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team: “Honoured to be Back”

0

Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. This announcement, made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah, marks a significant shift in leadership as Gambhir prepares to take on his new role starting with the white-ball series against Sri Lanka beginning on July 27.

The confirmation of Gambhir’s appointment comes on the heels of the conclusion of Rahul Dravid’s tenure. Dravid’s stint ended on a high note with India clinching the T20 World Cup 2024, defeating South Africa by seven runs, thus ending a 17-year drought for an ICC trophy.

Jay Shah announced the development on X, stating, “It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr. @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward.”

Shah further added, “His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey.”

Gautam Gambhir expressed his gratitude and excitement upon his appointment. In a heartfelt message on X, he wrote, “India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!”

Gambhir’s first assignment as head coach will be the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, where India will play a three-match T20I series followed by three ODIs. This series will be crucial as Gambhir begins his journey to bring new strategies and insights to the team.

The BCCI has also expressed its support for Gambhir, acknowledging his extensive experience and understanding of the game. “The former Indian opener brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game. Known for his exceptional batting prowess and strategic acumen, Gambhir has been a pivotal figure in Indian cricket,” the BCCI stated.

The search for Dravid’s successor began in earnest on May 13, when the BCCI invited applications for the head coach role. Dravid did not seek an extension, prompting the BCCI to look for a new candidate. The application deadline was May 27, and while Gambhir’s appointment was anticipated, negotiations over remuneration and other demands delayed the official announcement.

Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the head coach signals a new era for Indian cricket, with fans and players alike looking forward to the impact of his leadership and vision on the team.

Jaipur’s One-of-a-Kind Raj Bhavan: Home to the “Innovative Constitutional Park”

0

Mahima Rathor, student of Saksham Sanchar Foundation shared her detailed report about the visit to Constitution Park with the foundation.

We the students of Army Public School visited the Raj Bhavan, Jaipur and it’s constitutional park . The trip was planned by the Saksham Sanchar Foundation which was a part of their media master class course. Our teacher incharge from our school was Dr. Komalpreet Kaur who looked after us really well and managed everything smoothly. We started our expedition from our School and had really fun travelling there. As we reached there, we were welcomed by the management and the beautiful voice of Peacocks. The peacock in the park left a lasting impression on us and truly exceeded our expectations.

Next we went to the conference hall and watched a movie on how the idea to create a constitutional park came to Mr. Kalraj Mishra’s innovative brain. It showcased the very elements of making of constitutional park. Then we proceeded to the Constitutional Park , the only one that exists in the world. This park was inaugurated by are Honourable President Draupadi Murmu. It highlighted the architectural brilliance of Mr. Anoop Bartaria the designer of this park

.
The park was majestic from the beginning to the end, every single thing was breathtaking. The park started with the cover of the Indian constitution made from Kadappa stone in which designs are made from liquid brass which gives it really close look to the original copy of the Constitution. As we move forward we can see the front page of the constitution the Preamble. This was the reminder of the foundational principles and goals upon which the constitution and the associated governance are based.
Not only this but many more things like, the statue of the women who contributed to this, the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar handing over the draft of the constitution to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the statue of seating of the constituent assembly , statue of Nataraja and numerous others historic and inspirational ones .

At last this visit to Raj Bhavan Jaipur and its unique Constitutional Park was never going to be forgotten by all of us, the students of APS Jaipur.
Among its treasures are statues citing pivotal figures in the constitutional history of India: from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar presenting the draft to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, to scenes depicting the Constituent Assembly. Each statue reflects and reminds one of the national history in the developing journey towards independence and democratic governance. It was the unforgettable moment in all our lives—the student community—by not only enlightening us with the historical education on this great man but also making all of ourselves aware of the inspirational juncture of values and principles that formed our nation.

Gallantry Awardee Army Officer’s Wife Shares Painful Story of Love and Loss at Award Ceremony

0

The wife of Captain Anshuman Singh, a brave soldier of the Indian Army, accepted the Kirti Chakra from President Droupadi Murmu at a solemn award ceremony. Captain Singh, who was killed in action in July last year, was posthumously honored with India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award for his exceptional bravery. The poignant moment was captured in a video widely shared on social media, where Smriti Singh, his grieving widow, shared the heart-wrenching story of their love and her husband’s heroic death.

A Heartbreaking Acceptance

Dressed in a white saree, Smriti Singh accepted the award with tears in her eyes and her mother-in-law, Manju Singh, by her side. In a shaky but resolute voice, she recounted the words of her late husband, “I would die with a brass on my chest. I would not die an ordinary death.” Captain Anshuman Singh, of the Army Medical Corps, lived up to those words, sacrificing his life while rescuing people from a major fire.

An Emotional Tribute

The Ministry of Defence spokesperson shared an emotional video on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, July 6. In the video, Smriti spoke about the last conversation she had with her husband and the moment she received the devastating news of his martyrdom. She also reminisced about their journey together, describing how they met and fell in love.

“He was very much capable. He would tell me, ‘I would die with a brass on my chest. I would not die an ordinary death like no one would know’,” Smriti recalled. Captain Anshuman Singh’s story is indeed extraordinary. His bravery and selflessness were evident in his actions, which ultimately led to his untimely demise.

A Story of Love and Sacrifice

Smriti’s voice quivered as she narrated their love story, starting from their first meeting on the first day of college. “I don’t want to be dramatic but it was love at first sight,” she said. Their relationship endured the test of time and distance, lasting eight long years before they finally decided to get married.

“Unfortunately, within two months of marriage, he got posted to Siachen. On July 18, we had a long conversation about how our life will be in the next 50 years. We are going to build a house, we are going to have kids, whatnot. On the 19th morning (last year), I got up, and I got a call that he is no more,” Smriti recounted, her voice breaking with emotion.

Coming to Terms with Loss

The acceptance of the Kirti Chakra brought a bittersweet realization for Smriti. “For the first seven to eight hours, we could not accept that anything of that sort has happened. Till date, I am not coping. Just trying to figure out, thinking maybe it is not true. But now that I have the Kirti Chakra in my hand, I realize it is true. But it’s okay, he is a hero. We can manage a little of our lives because he has managed a lot. He gave up his life and family so that the other three families could be saved,” she said.

A Nation’s Tribute

In a post on X, Rashtrapati Bhavan acknowledged the bravery and sacrifice of Captain Anshuman Singh. “President Droupadi Murmu conferred Kirti Chakra upon Captain Anshuman Singh, The Army Medical Corps, 26th Battalion The Punjab Regiment, posthumously. Disregarding his own safety, he exhibited exceptional bravery and resolve to rescue many people in a major fire incident,” read the post. Along with the message, a photograph of Smriti accepting the Kirti Chakra was shared, capturing the solemnity and pride of the moment.

President Murmu conferred 10 Kirti Chakras, including seven posthumously, to personnel of the Army and paramilitary forces for displaying indomitable courage and extraordinary valor in the line of duty. The ceremony was a tribute to the selfless heroes who put their lives on the line for the safety and security of others, with Captain Anshuman Singh being one of the most poignant examples of such bravery.

To-Be Ambani Couple to Say “I Do” Wearing Jaipur Jewellery

0

The Ambani family is abuzz with excitement as preparations for a royal wedding are in full swing. Following the pre-wedding ceremonies, the wedding itself will sparkle with the elegance of Jaipur’s renowned jewellery. Special Kundan Meena, Jadau, and color stone jewellery have been specially crafted for this grand occasion.

Jeweller Sunita Shekhawat revealed that Nita and Mukesh Ambani personally invited her and her family to attend the much-anticipated wedding of their son, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant. The magnificent ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 14 at the Jio World Garden in Mumbai.

Shekhawat confirmed that her jewellery house has indeed provided pieces for the event. However, she refrained from disclosing the number and designs of the jewellery without the Ambani family’s approval. She also mentioned that she has a long-standing relationship with Radhika Merchant’s family and has been designing jewellery for them for quite some time.

It’s noteworthy that prior to the wedding ceremony, the Padmapriya Collection from the ‘House of Sunita Shekhawat’ played a significant role and was the center of attraction during the Lagna Lakvaanu ceremony. Held in February, this pre-wedding event saw Nita and Mukesh Ambani adorned in exquisite jewellery designed by Shekhawat’s house.

As the wedding date approaches, anticipation builds around the glamorous union of Anant and Radhika, with Jaipur’s jewellery set to add a touch of royal splendor to the celebrations.

Novak Djokovic Eyes Wimbledon Semi-Final, Up Against ‘Spectacular’ Opponent in Quarter-Finals

0

Chasing a record-equalling eighth title, Novak Djokovic is set to face 15th seed Holger Rune in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. The seven-time champion has his sights firmly set on reaching a seventh successive Wimbledon semi-final on Monday. Djokovic, pursuing his 25th Grand Slam crown, overcame Australia’s Alexei Popyrin 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) on Saturday, marking his 16th appearance in the Wimbledon fourth round.

Meanwhile, diminutive giant-killer Yulia Putintseva aims for another upset against former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, while lucky loser Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard seeks to make more Wimbledon history.

Djokovic on Song in Title Charge

Novak Djokovic has hit all the right notes in the opening rounds of his bid for Wimbledon history. However, the Serb cannot afford an off-key moment in his tricky last 16 test against the “spectacular” Holger Rune. Despite still sporting a knee support on his right leg following surgery in June, Djokovic showcased his playful side after subduing the gritty Popyrin. On Centre Court, he mimed playing a violin, a gesture aimed at his daughter, who has recently started learning the instrument.

Djokovic must stay on song against Rune, who mounted an impressive third-round comeback, prevailing over Frenchman Quentin Halys in five sets after trailing by two. “He looks to me a player that is ready for big things. He’s a spectacular player, no doubt. He’s a very tricky opponent,” Djokovic said. “When it comes to competing, obviously we both have that fire. I’m sure on Monday we’ll see a lot of fireworks on the court.”

Putintseva Set for Ostapenko Battle

After ousting world number one Iga Swiatek in the third round, Yulia Putintseva is steeled for another potentially explosive clash against Jelena Ostapenko for a place in the last eight. The world number 35 fought back to stun Swiatek 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, ending the Polish star’s 21-match winning streak on Saturday. Putintseva’s victory continued a superb grass-court season for the 29-year-old, who won the Birmingham Classic last month.

The Russia-born Kazakhstani has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open and US Open but had never been beyond the second round at Wimbledon. “Last year I won no matches on grass. I mean, entering a tournament like Wimbledon, when you have five consecutive wins on grass, it’s pretty good. You feel this surface much better,” Putintseva said.

Next, she faces the equally emotional Ostapenko after the Latvian 13th seed’s 6-1, 6-3 win over Bernarda Pera. Ostapenko won the French Open in 2017 and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals a year later but has struggled to hit those heights since then.

Aces High for Mpetshi Perricard

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard thought his Wimbledon campaign was over two weeks ago, but the big-serving Frenchman is now within touching distance of the quarter-finals. Mpetshi Perricard, who stands a towering 2.03m (6ft 8ins), lost in the final round of qualifying to Maxime Janvier last Thursday. However, the 20-year-old was given a reprieve when he got the call to replace injured Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the main draw.

Capitalising on his unexpected opportunity, Mpetshi Perricard defeated Emil Ruusuvuori 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on Saturday, becoming the first lucky loser to make the Wimbledon last 16 since Dick Norman in 1995. Fuelled by his mammoth serve, which has produced 105 aces so far in the tournament, Mpetshi Perricard faces Italian 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti as he aims to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final.

That would be the perfect birthday present for the rising star, who turns 21 on Monday. “I’m very proud of myself. How far can I go? I don’t know. I’m just focused on the next one,” he said.

Mount Abu Shergaon: A Village 100 Years Behind, Living Life Secluded from the World

0

In an era where nations constantly strive to outdo each other with new advancements, benefiting from the latest technology in every aspect of life, there remain places that seem untouched by time. One such place is Shergaon, a village in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, where life still mirrors the simplicity of a century ago. The people of Shergaon lead a life far removed from the digital world, with no knowledge of phones or modern amenities.

Disconnected from the Digital World

While most people today are glued to their phones, the residents of Shergaon have never even seen one. The village is so isolated from modernity that it exists in a self-contained bubble, reminiscent of an era long past. This community continues to live as people did a hundred years ago.

The Story of Shergaon

Shergaon’s tale is both fascinating and astonishing. Despite lacking basic amenities, the villagers lead a content life. There are no paved roads, no electricity, and the villagers have adapted to living with minimal conveniences. The village thrives without the trappings of modern civilization.

Living with Old Practices

In Shergaon, mobile phones are unheard of, primarily because there is no network coverage. The village lacks shops, and residents draw drinking water from wells. Their homes are built using traditional methods, and the village itself is nestled within a forest.

Seasonal Migration

During winter, the temperatures in Shergaon plummet below freezing. To escape the harsh cold, villagers migrate to nearby settlements. This seasonal migration is a part of life in this high-altitude village, situated at an elevation of 1,500 meters.

Astonishment on Social Media

The lifestyle of Shergaon has recently garnered attention on social media, leaving people amazed. It’s hard to believe that in today’s world, there are places without electricity, running water, or paved roads. The stark contrast between Shergaon and modern urban life highlights the village’s unique existence.

Winter Hardships

Shergaon is recognized as one of the highest villages in Mount Abu. During winter, the mercury drops below zero, forcing residents to leave for neighboring villages. The village’s lifestyle, now visible on social media, astonishes many who find it hard to believe that such places still exist, where people live without basic modern amenities.

Shergaon stands as a testament to a way of life that has withstood the passage of time, a place where simplicity and tradition continue to thrive despite the encroaching tide of modernity.
