Indian Diaspora in Canada: A Key Factor in Carney’s Vision
With approximately 3 million Indians living in Canada, including a large number of Indian students (around 427,000), Carney’s policies will likely consider the economic and social contributions of the Indian diaspora. This community contributes between $8 billion and $20 billion annually to the Canadian economy, and Carney’s administration may focus on fostering skilled immigration to support economic growth.
India-Canada Trade Relations: The Path Forward
Despite recent diplomatic tensions, trade relations between India and Canada have remained strong. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations, which began in 2008, were stalled following the Nijjar incident in 2023. However, under Carney’s leadership, there is hope that these talks will resume and lead to a successful agreement.
Trade figures for the 2023-24 period indicate a resilient economic relationship:

Imports from India: $4.6 billion

The School of Business at Mody University of Science and Technology successfully organized a five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) from April 26 to April 30, 2025. The program focused on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS, SMART PLS, and Panel Data Modeling, aiming to strengthen the research and analytical skills of faculty members, research scholars, and students.
Inauguration and Objective
Held in a hybrid format, the FDP commenced with an inaugural ceremony at the Sangeet Samrat Tansen Sabhagar on April 26. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Bhardwaj, President of Mody University; Dr. Satyendra Sharma and Dr. Saurabh Chadha from BITS Pilani.
In his opening address, Prof. Bhardwaj emphasized Mody University’s commitment to promoting high-quality research. He highlighted the institution’s efforts to support faculty and students in publishing world-class research papers and contributing meaningfully to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation.
Day-wise Highlights
Day 1: The session began with an introduction to SPSS and panel data modeling, laying a strong foundation for the upcoming technical sessions.
Day 2: Participants engaged in detailed discussions on parametric tests and factor analysis with Dr. Satyendra Sharma. Dr. Saurabh Chadha followed with an insightful session on time series forecasting using EViews, while Dr. Shalu Mahajan concluded the day with a session on correlation and regression analysis.
Day 3: Focused on Advanced Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS, the day featured a hands-on workshop by Prof. (Dr.) Hamendra Kumar Dangi, covering model specification, estimation techniques, and interpretation of SEM results.
Day 4: Featured a deep dive into qualitative research methods led by Dr. Ashutosh Muduli, followed by Dr. Lalita Kumari’s session on using STATA software for data manipulation and panel data operations.
Day 5: The final day introduced participants to PLS-SEM using SMART PLS, presented by Dr. Nirankush Dutta. The FDP concluded with a vibrant cultural performance by students, followed by the Valedictory Ceremony where participation certificates were awarded.
