Gold Fever 2025: Where 10 Grams Shine the Brightest and the Cheapest!

0

They say gold has no borders but your wallet might disagree. In 2025, the price of 10 grams of gold paints a glittering picture of global economics, with each country revealing its own shade of sparkle.

At the very top of the golden ladder sits India, where 10 grams now cost a dazzling ₹1,22,510 making it one of the most expensive places in the world to buy the yellow metal. Despite high prices, Indian demand hasn’t dimmed; weddings, festivals, and family heirlooms continue to keep jewellers busier than ever.

Just behind is the United States at ₹1,16,633, proving that even in a dollar-driven economy, gold remains the ultimate hedge against uncertainty. Australia follows closely at ₹1,19,714, where investors are treating gold as both glamour and guarantee.

Across the Middle East, Dubai once the go-to destination for gold shoppers now lists its price at ₹1,12,818, still competitive but no longer dramatically cheaper than its global peers. Meanwhile, Switzerland, the world’s luxury hub, surprisingly offers one of the lowest rates at ₹1,07,439, thanks to its stable currency and refined bullion market.

Asian markets like China (₹1,13,615), Japan (₹1,13,920), and Hong Kong (₹1,13,758) show remarkable price parity, reflecting both regional demand and strong currency management.

So what’s driving these glittering gaps? Exchange rates, import duties, local taxes, and inflation all play their part. But beyond numbers, gold’s allure is emotional, a symbol of stability when everything else feels uncertain.
Whether it’s an Indian bride, an American investor, or a Swiss banker, 2025 proves one thing: gold is not just a metal.
It’s a mirror reflecting culture, confidence, and the timeless human urge to hold a little piece of forever.

A Towering Tribute: World’s Tallest Lord Murugan Statue Rising in the U.S

0

Faith is finding new horizons quite literally. In Moncure, North Carolina, the Hindu community is building one of the most ambitious spiritual landmarks outside India: the Carolina Murugan Temple, featuring a 155-foot-tall statue of Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war.

Once placed atop its 35-foot pedestal, the statue’s total height will reach 190 feet, surpassing even the Statue of Liberty. It’s set to become the tallest Murugan statue in the world, symbolizing devotion, unity, and the growing cultural identity of the Indian diaspora in America.

Spread across 130 acres, the temple complex will blend traditional Dravidian-style architecture with modern infrastructure. Construction will unfold in phases, with the first phase costing an estimated $3 million. When completed, the site is expected to draw devotees not only from across the United States but also from around the world transforming North Carolina into a global pilgrimage destination for followers of Lord Murugan.

According to reports, the temple will serve more than just a religious purpose. It aims to foster community bonding, preserve Tamil and Hindu heritage, and offer a spiritual home for second-generation Indian-Americans seeking connection with their roots.

As spiritual architecture expands beyond India’s borders, projects like this highlight how traditions adapt and flourish across continents. The Carolina Murugan Temple stands as a reminder that faith doesn’t fade with distance, it grows taller, prouder, and more universal.

When the golden statue finally rises against the American sky, it will be more than a monument, it will be a message: that culture and devotion can cross oceans, yet remain deeply rooted in the soul.

Filmmaker Mira Nair Gave Us Monsoon Wedding, Her Son Gives U.S. a New York Mayor

0

Renowned filmmaker Mira Nair, who brought Indian culture to global screens through films like Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake, now has another reason to be proud—her son, Zohran Mamdani, has made history by becoming the first Indian-American and first Muslim Mayor of New York.

Zohran Mamdani, representing the Democratic Party, secured 50.4% of the vote, defeating independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, who received 41.6%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa, who garnered 7%. According to CBS News, Mamdani received over one million votes—a feat achieved for the first time since 1969.

More than two million New Yorkers participated in the election, nearly double the turnout compared to the previous one, signaling a renewed enthusiasm among voters.

A Historic and Emotional Victory

After his victory, Mamdani addressed supporters at the Brooklyn Paramount Theatre, joined by his parents, Mira Nair and academic Mahmood Mamdani, and his wife. In his powerful speech, he took direct aim at former President Donald Trump, saying:

“The city that gave birth to Trump will now show the country how to defeat him. Donald Trump, I know you’re watching this—I have four words for you: turn up the volume.”

Trump later responded on Truth Social, writing cryptically, “…and now it begins.”

From Reel to Real Inspiration

While Mira Nair’s films have long reflected stories of identity, struggle, and hope, her son’s journey from activism to political leadership mirrors the same values. Zohran Mamdani, a progressive voice within the Democratic Party, has pledged to introduce free childcare, rent freezes, and free bus travel for New Yorkers—promises he plans to fund through new taxes on the wealthy and corporations.

Global Congratulations

Among the global leaders to congratulate Mamdani was London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “New Yorkers were faced with two choices—hope and fear—and they chose hope.”

The New York Times called Mamdani’s win “an almost impossible race,” while the New York Post dubbed him “The Red Apple” for his progressive ideals.

A Family of Trailblazers

With this victory, Mira Nair’s legacy extends beyond cinema. Her storytelling redefined Indian representation in global films, and now her son has redefined it in American politics.
Together, they symbolize how creativity, courage, and conviction can shape both art and society—across continents and generations.

Zohran Mamdani Creates History as First Indian-American Mayor of New York, Draws Reaction from Trump

Indian-American Democratic Party leader Zohran Mamdani has made history by winning the New York mayoral election, becoming the youngest, first Indian-American, and first Muslim mayor of the city in the last 100 years.

According to CBS News, with 91% of votes counted, Mamdani received 50.4%, while independent candidate Andrew Cuomo secured 41.6%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa got 7%.

For the first time since 1969, a New York mayoral candidate has received over 1 million votes. More than 2 million people voted in this election—nearly double the turnout of the previous one.

‘Turn Up the Volume’: Mamdani’s Message to Trump

After his victory, Mamdani addressed supporters at the Brooklyn Paramount Theatre, where he delivered a powerful speech directly addressing former President Donald Trump.

“The city that gave birth to Trump will now show the country how to defeat him. Donald Trump, I know you’re watching this. I have four words for you: turn up the volume.”

He further said,

“If any city can show the country that has been deceived by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is New York. This is not just a way to stop Trump, but also a way to stop the next person.”

Moments later, President Trump reacted on Truth Social, writing,

“…and now it begins.”

Mamdani described his victory as one for “every citizen of New York.” He was joined on stage by his parents—filmmaker Mira Nair and scholar Mahmood Mamdani—and his wife, in an emotional post-victory celebration.

Three Major Challenges Ahead

  1. Delivering Promises:
Mamdani has pledged free childcare for all, rent freezes for subsidized housing, free bus travel, and city-run grocery stores. He aims to raise $9 billion by taxing the wealthy and large corporations, though experts say the plan will be difficult to implement.
  2. Dealing with Trump Administration:
President Trump has hinted at potentially withholding federal funds from New York, which could hinder Mamdani’s social programs.
  3. Uniting Democrats:
As a member of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, Mamdani faces the challenge of balancing the moderate and left-leaning factions within his own party.

Reactions from Around the World

London Mayor Sadiq Khan congratulated Mamdani on social media platform X, writing that New Yorkers had “chosen hope over fear.” Khan called Mamdani’s campaign “historic” and praised his progressive vision.

American media outlets reflected contrasting tones—The New York Times called Mamdani’s campaign “an almost impossible race,” while The New York Post labeled him “The Red Apple,” referring to his socialist ideals.

A Historic Night for Women Leaders

In related developments, Democratic candidates Abigail Spanberger (Virginia) and Mikie Sherrill (New Jersey) won their gubernatorial races, bringing the total number of women governors in the U.S. to 14—the highest in history.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hailed the milestone, saying,

“Democratic women made history today.”

Meanwhile, Indian-origin leader Ghazala Hashmi became the first Muslim woman Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, defeating Republican John Reed.

Maldives Enforces World’s First Generational Tobacco Ban

0

The Maldives has made history by becoming the first country in the world to enforce a generational ban on tobacco and vaping, taking a bold step toward a smoke-free future. Under the new law—effective November 1, 2025—anyone born after January 1, 2007, including tourists, is prohibited from purchasing or using tobacco products.

A Landmark Public Health Reform

The ban was introduced through the Second Amendment to the Tobacco Control Act and ratified by President Mohamed Muizzu earlier this year. It bars the sale, possession, and use of all tobacco products—including cigarettes and smokeless forms—for those born after the 2007 cut-off date.

The Maldives Ministry of Health hailed the move as a “historic milestone” that underscores the country’s commitment to the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC).

Complete Ban on Vaping and E-Cigarettes

Setting a global precedent, the legislation also bans vaping and e-cigarettes across all age groups—including import, sale, and use.

Penalties are strict:

  • Retailers selling tobacco to underage individuals face fines up to 50,000 Maldivian rufiyaa (approx. ₹2.9 lakh).
  • Individuals caught using e-cigarettes can be fined 5,000 rufiyaa (around ₹29,000).

National Celebration and Support

To mark the law’s enforcement, the Maldives held a national torch relay on November 1, featuring schoolchildren, health workers, and community leaders.

First Lady Saajidhaa Mohamed praised the move as “a bold, evidence-based step to break the cycle of addiction,” while President Muizzu said it forms part of broader national health reforms promoting sustainable and healthy living across the island nation.

Facts

  • Effective Date: November 1, 2025
  • Eligibility Cut-off: Applies to anyone born after January 1, 2007
  • Scope: Includes both citizens and tourists
  • Coverage: All tobacco forms, vaping, and e-cigarettes banned
  • Penalties:
    • 50,000 MVR fine for illegal sales
    • 5,000 MVR fine for personal violations

Global Context and Future Outlook

The Maldives’ move goes beyond New Zealand’s earlier tobacco-free generation policy, which was repealed in 2024 before implementation.

This initiative aligns with the global Tobacco Endgame movement, aiming to phase out tobacco use through sustained regulation and education. With tobacco-related diseases claiming over seven million lives annually, the Maldives’ generational ban could inspire other nations to adopt similar measures to protect future generations from addiction and preventable deaths.
