Maharaja Hari Singh birth anniversary will be announced as public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to declare Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary on September 23 as a public holiday. A notification in this regard will be issued soon, an official statement said.

Earlier, the son of Raja Hari Singh – the last ruler of Jammu and Kashmir — Dr Karan Singh, endorsed the demand of the locals to declare September 23, his father’s birth anniversary, a public holiday.

Locals here, particularly those from the Rajput community, were protesting for the last fortnight in Jammu city with the demand to declare September 23 a public holiday in honour of the last Maharaja.
