The annual Amarnath pilgrimage shall not take place in current year due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, online “aarti” will be facilitated for the devotees, said Liueutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha after discussions with the shrine board.
Let’s know key features of this yatra:
- It is a 56-day annual yatra which was about to commence on June 28 this year
- The yatra ends at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Lord Shiva, located in the upper reaches of Himalayas
- It was scheduled to start from the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal on June 28 and culminate on August 22.
- The pilgrimage was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
