Emma Raducanu, the 18-year-old British tennis star, walked the red carpet of Met Gala 2021, brushing shoulders with A-list celebrities like Megan Fox, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kristen Stewart as well as sports stars including Serena Williams, Simone Biles and Maria Sharapova, just 48 hours after her win at the US Open. The triumphant teen, who was sitting her A-levels just over three months ago, scored not only her career-high singles ranking of world No. 23, but also an invitation to the Met Gala, the annual soiree raising funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
Raducanu showed up in an elegant black and white outfit from Chanel with pearl body jewellery complementing her outfit. Her new-found celebrity status was evident as she posed for the waiting photographers before making her way inside.
This was just another piece among many recognitions for her tremendous on-court success. The teen also made an appearance on many US talk shows, including Good Morning America on Monday. She also posted a picture on Instagram, posing in front of a billboard of herself while sightseeing in New York.
Raducanu puts her stunning success down to her “very hard-to-please parents” who, she said, had given her the mental strength to succeed. Her victory also made her the first British woman to win a singles Grand Slam championship since Wade at Wimbledon in 1977 and the first British Grand Slam singles champion of either gender since Andy Murray at Wimbledon in 2016.
