Central Vista location in Delhi
The Central Vista is the esteemed area around the Rajpath, between the India Gate and the President house in New Delhi. The central vista covers the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament, North Block, South Block, the home of the Vice President.
Apart from this, National Museum, National Archives, Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts (IGNCA), Udyog Bhawan, Bikaner House, Hyderabad House, Nirman Bhawan and Jawahar Bhawan are also a part of Central Vista.
Central Vista first designed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker
The Central Vista was first designed by architect Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. The Parliament Building was inaugurated on 18 January, 1927 and is now 94-year-old now and such an old building needs to be reconstructed. This Redevelopment will provide extra seating requirements and necessary infrastructure for the use of future generations of India. The project will strengthen the capacity of Parliament from 545 seats to 900 seats. The Central Vista’s chief architect presently is Bimal Patel who says the project will define a ‘new India’.
Central Vista Redevelopment Project launching date
The Central Vista Redevelopment Project was launched in September 2019 and is expected to be complete by 2024. The project as of 2020 aims to revamp a 3 km (1.9 mi) long Rajpath between Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate, convert North and South Blocks to publicly accessible museums by creating a new common Central Secretariat to house all ministries. There are further lists and planning for the new structures under vista project which will be fully completed by 2024.
