Maharana Pratap birth anniversary: Know unknown facts about the Rajput king of Mewar

Maharana Pratap, the Rajput king of Mewar, also known as a fearsome warrior and an excellent combat strategist, was born on May 9 in the year 1540. He was the eldest son of Uday Singh II and Maharani Jaiwanta Bai who founded the beautiful city Udaipur.

Maharana Pratap’s birth anniversary is celebrated every year on May 9 as per English calendar while as per the Hindu calendar, his Jayanti is celebrated on the third day of the month of Jyeshta.

Mahara Pratap became the King after death of his father:

 Mahara Pratap became the Mewar King in 1572, after the death of Udai Singh, becoming the 13th Rajput king of Mewar.

Maharana Pratap as the ‘mountain man’

Maharana Pratap is counted as one of the strongest warriors India has ever seen. With a height of 7 feet 5 inches, he would carry an 80-kilogram spear and two swords weighing around 208 kilograms. His armor weighed 72 kilograms.

Maharana Pratap was first native freedom fighter

Maharana Pratap is regarded as India’s first native freedom fighter as he opened freedom fight against the Mughals.

He rebuilt his capital in Chavand, around 60 kilometers south of Udaipur, and spent the rest of his life there.

Maharana Pratap breathed his last on January 19, 1597.
