“With one melody and one rhythm, let us all sing together… a union of minds, come, let’s light the flame of folk art and culture.” For eleven continuous days, the 27th Lokrang Festival has celebrated the cultural magnificence of India, culminating in a splendid closing ceremony on Monday that showcased a vibrant tapestry of folk cultures from different states. Artists, adorned in traditional attire, danced to the tunes of their instruments, creating a luminous array on the Central Stage.

A musical symphony, featuring instruments like the morchang, dhol, dholak, khadtal, algoza, rabab, and flute, captivated the audience with its unique rhythm. The “Bharat Milan” performance, with artists from diverse states dancing in unison, created an unforgettable spectacle. Following this, a folk procession of singing, instrumental, and dance performances moved towards Shilpgram, where the Lokrang flag was lowered to mark the festival’s conclusion.

This 11-day festival, beginning on October 18, included a National Folk Dance Festival with folk art performances from 24 states, along with a National Handicraft Fair featuring handicraft exhibits. Each day, folk artists from different states showcased the beauty of their cultures on the Central Stage, while artisans displayed their craftsmanship at the Shilpgram Handicraft Fair. Cultural performances also took place on the main stage at Shilpgram. For the first time, the Rang Chaupal at Lokrang featured folk plays and singing assemblies, offering a new dimension to the festival.

Excitement on peak for the Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony of the Lokrang Festival generated much excitement among art enthusiasts, who gathered for the National Folk Dance Festival. The celebration began with a soulful singing performance by Manganiar artists, followed by Dogri folk song presentations by artists from Jammu. Karnataka’s artists performed the lively Kamsale dance, and Rajasthani artists brought the Goovardhan Leela to life, immersing everyone in the colors of Lord Krishna. After a traditional Pung Cholam performance, artists from Gujarat performed the Huddo Raas. The lineup continued with Rauf from Kashmir, Lai Haraoba from Manipur, Vasava Holi dance from Gujarat, Bhangra from Punjab, and Siddhi Goma from Gujarat.

A Symphony of Cultural Harmony

These performances led to the much-anticipated symphony, blending over 35 instruments from 11 states, including morchang, dhol, dholak, khadtal, algoza, rabab, flute, and nagada, creating an enchanting rhythm that mesmerized the audience. Artists from various states entered from the four gates of the Central Stage, symbolizing a grand cultural confluence, painting the Jawahar Kala Kendra’s canvas with India’s vibrant colors. The artists then led a torch-lit procession to Shilpgram, marking the end of Lokrang. As the event concluded, art lovers joined the artists in dancing and celebrating, filling the evening with joy and unity.
