Indian archer Deepika Kumari won three medals in the Archery World Cup Stage 3 being held in Paris this year and will be the only woman participant in Archery representing India in Olympics 2020 to be held in Tokyo.
She won three gold medals in women’s individual, women’s team, and mixed team and also reclaimed her World Number 1 ranking for the first time since 2012.
Deepika will be the only female Indian archer to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
Deepika Kumari: Her age and birth place
Deepika Kumari (27) was born in a village 15 km away from Ranchi in 1994. With humble beginnings, she took to archery as a young child and practiced this sport with mangoes and stones.
While her parents were unable to support her dreams but Deepika was helped by her cousin at Tata Archery Academy situated in Jamshedpur where her professional career started in 2006.
Deepika Kumari: Achievements
Deepika shot to fame at the 2010 Commonwealth Games hosted in Delhi with her performances. She won two gold medals under the individual category and the women’s team event. Kumari also helped her team win bronze in the Team Recurve event at the 2010 Asian Games.
The 27-year-old won the individual recurve medal at the 2012 World Cup in Turkey after beating Korea’s Lee Sung-Jin. She was crowned number one in the world rankings in Women’s Recurve Archery.
In 2014, Forbes India featured her in their list of 30 under 30.
