Regarded as the ninth of the significant Dasa Mahavidyas, Goddess Matangi is also called as ‘Tantrik Saraswati’ as she is related to the art of magic – Tantrik Vidhya. As per the Hindu calendar, Matangi Jayanti falls on Akshaya Tritiya-Vaisakha Sukla Paksha Tritiya.

Matangi Jayanti 2021 Date

Goddess Matangi Jayanti is celebrated each year on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya day of the month of Baisakh. In the year 2021, Matangi Jayanti is observed on Friday, 14 May when devotees perform puja and religious ceremonies to Goddess Matangi. Parashuram Jayanti is also observed on this day to commemorate his birth anniversary who is considered as the sixth Avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Matangi Jayanti Rituals

The statue of idol of the deity is placed on the altar by the devotees on this day to worship the goddess. Once this is done, they light a diya and start the rituals. ‘Prasad’ is prepared by the devotees and offered to the deity along with flowers, garlands and coconut. Then devotees perform aarti along with chanting mantras. Later, Prasad is distributed to the devotees. Donations are also given on this day.

Matangi Jayanti Story

Goddess Matangi is form of Lord Shiva who wears a crescent moon on her forehead, and her forearms direct towards four directions. Popularly known as Vagdevi, goddess Matangi is also a form of goddess Saraswati according to Hindu mythology.

Legend says that a sage named Matang underwent a lot of penance in the Kandabvan and then came a divine and radiant light from his eyes which took the form of a woman. Since then, this woman is regarded as the daughter of sage Matang and thus was called as Matangi.

Matangi Jayanti Significance

Worshipping goddess Matangi blesses devotees with all the pleasures of life and frees them from all fears and hardships. Devotees worship her to perform well in fine arts, dance, and music. The Goddess also helps to live a happy conjugal life filled with harmony and peace.
