It is not just a holiday or a day when people wear green clothes, but the main purpose is to educate people about environmental issues and to encourage them to adapt to an environmentally friendly way of living.
History of Earth Day
Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson , a resident of America, in 1970 in the hope of bringing environmental issues in spotlight.
Nelson was convinced of the fact that our planet is at risk. Hence, he took the step forward to educate people to protect the environment and save the planet.
On the first Earth Day in 1970, rallies were held in Los Angeles and other American cities. The first Earth Day was effective at raising awareness about environmental issues and transforming public attitudes.
The year 1990, Earth Day went global, with more than 140 countries participating in the event.
Since then, Earth Day celebrations have grown and it started being celebrated in almost 193 countries.
Theme of Earth Day 2022
The theme of Earth Day 2022 is ‘ Invest In Our Planet’. The aim is to focus on the effects of climate change on the planet that we are all facing and what efforts are being made in the world to stop it.
