Happy birthday, Sachin Tendulkar: Look how many cricketers share Bday with him!

0

Sachin Tendulkar, known as God of cricket, was born on April 24, 1973.

The Little Master, as he is commonly known in cricket circle, scripted a history in the cricket world by clinching the title of being one of the greatest cricketers who believed in breaking records and scaling new heights.

The man knew how to win matches by his sharp shots which left the fielders confused.

Now let’s see how many cricketers he share his birthday with:

Kumar Dharmasena: He was born two years before the Little Master, and is at present one of the finest umpires in the ICC Elite Panel. He was a part of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup triumph. With 207 international wickets and a batting average of around 20 from 141 ODIs and 31 Tests, Dharmasena was certainly in the category of a reliable all-rounder.

Damien Fleming: Damien Fleming of international cricket was born three years ahead of Tendulkar. The Aussie pacer started off his career with a hat-trick. He further managed another hat-trick against India in 1999-2000, but Shane Warne played spoilsport and grassed the catch.

MSK Prasad: Mannava Sri Kanth Prasad, also called as MSK, is a recognisable face from the 1990s. Hailing from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, he was a wicketkeeper since his junior days and went on to debut for India against Bangladesh in the Coca Cola Triangular series in May 1998.

History

This festival was earlier held at Arrattupuzha when all other temples in and around Thrissur used to come with the Ezhunellapa (procession of the god/goddess) and celebrate this pooram festival for a day as a tradition, for around 200 odd years. Eventually the festival lost it charms to the fights between the various temple boards.

The then ruler Sakthan Thampuran organised this event as a mass festival and created a venue near ‘Vadakkunnathan temple’, (Lord Shiva) to organise the procession from all 10 temples situated nearby. The festival now is celebrated at the Thekkinkadu maidan, near the Vadakunnathan temple.

Swaminarayan Jayanti 2021: Tithi, significance and story connected with Akshardham Temple

0

Bhagwan Swaminarayan, believed to be an incarnation of the Supreme Being, was born in a village named Chhapaiya in northern India on April 3, 1781 to Dharma Dev (Hariprasad Pande) and his wife Bhakti Devi (Bala Devi).

However, as per the traditional Hindu calendar, Bhagwan Swaminarayan was born on the Navami Tithi, Chaitra Shukla Paksha. It was the same Tithi when Rama was born.

New Delhi’s Akshardham, the world-famous monument, is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan. ‘Akshardham’ means God’s abode or the heavenly/divine abode. The shrine is a tribute to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, ancient sages and deities of Sanatana Dharma. It is not only a place of worship but also a spiritual/cultural campus that promotes learning, peace and harmony.

In fact, many temples have been built in different parts of the world to promote Swaminarayan teachings and preachings.

Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s inspiring story

Born as Ghanshyam, Bhagwan Swaminarayan was inclined towards spirituality since childhood. Interestingly, a sage named Markandeya Muni predicted that the child would emerge as a spiritual figure who would bring about a positive change in people’s lives. And the sage’s predictions came true.

As Ghanshyam grew up, his spiritual works and knowledge inspired many. Hence he was hailed Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He reinstated the four values of life – Dharma, Satya, Ahimsa and Brahmacharya.
