History of Mahavir Jayanti

Lord Mahavira, also known as Vardhamana, was the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, born in the 6th century BCE in Bihar. He was born to queen Trishala and king Siddhartha on the 13th day of the bright half of the moon in Chaitra month.

Lord Mahavira was quite interested in meditation and at the age of 30, he took the spiritual path and left his throne to practice Jainism.

CJI Justice NV Ramana: Son of humble agriculturist who touched new heights in judiciary

Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Raman has dealt with many high profile cases in the Supreme Court including abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, restoring  internet in the Valley, the restoration of the Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh and the Right to Information Act.

Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, sworn in as the 48th Chief Justice of India, is son Nuthalapati Ganapathi Rao and Sarojini who are humble agriculturists.

He has taken over at a crucial time when the judiciary is going back to a virtual mode, owing to the second wave of pandemic.

Sworn in by President Ram Nath Kovind at a brief ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Justice Ramana will retire on August 26, 2022.

He was born on August 27, 1957 in Ponnavaram of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh and is the youngest of three siblings.

He briefly worked as a journalist for Telugu newspaper Eenadu, then as a first generation lawyer and enrolled as an advocate and set up practice in Vijaywada in 1983.

As Chairperson of the National Legal Services Authority, Justice Ramana imparted training to lawyers and litigants to adapt to e-courts during the pandemic.

He has dealt with several-high profile cases in the Supreme Court related to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, restoration of internet in the Valley, the restoration of the Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh and the Right to Information Act.

Justice Ramana was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh high court in June 2000. He has also served as the acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh high court for a brief period between March and May 2013.

Thereafter, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of Delhi high court in September the same year, before being appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court in February 2014.

Justice Ramana, 63, was part of a bench that ruled that suspension of the Internet in Jammu and Kashmir should be reviewed at the earliest. He was also part of the panel of judges which held that the Chief Justice’s office comes under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

A daughter born after 35 years in Rajasthan was given a different welcome where she was brought home in a helicopter

A new born girl, born after 35 years in a family, was given a distinguished welcome for her parents hired a copter costing Rs 4.5 lakh and gave her a rosy welcome all through the way till she reached her sweet home.

The father of the girl, Hanuman Prajapat, a resident of Nimbdi Chandawata in Nagaur district, hired a helicopter to bring home his newborn daughter from the house of her maternal grandparents on Wednesday.

His wife Chuki Devi delivered a baby daughter, Riya, on March 3 in the Nagaur district hospital. From there she went to her parents’ house in Harsolav village with the baby for post-delivery care.

All we wanted to make the occasion special, he said his native village Nimbdi Chandawata.

The distance of nearly 40 km between Nimbdi Chandawata and Harsolav villages was covered by a helicopter which took around 10 minutes to cover the distance.

Prajapat said that his father, Madanlal Kumhar, wanted to celebrate the birth of his granddaughter wholeheartedly.

Hence came this celebration, he added.

Leonardo da Vinci’s science diary, Codex of Leicester, also known as the Codex Hammer, remains the most expensive book ever sold in the world.

During the Christie’s auction house on November 11, 1994, it was sold to Bill Gates on 11 November 1994 in New York for US$30,802,500 (equivalent to $53,222,898.79 in 2019).

The 72-page linen manuscript carries Leonardo’s thoughts, theories and observations of the world, including movement of water, fossils and the luminosity of the moon providing an insight into the inquiring mind of the definitive Renaissance artist, scientist and thinker.

The Codex is named after Thomas Coke, who purchased it in 1719 and later became the Earl of Leicester.

It was written between the years of 1506 and 1510. The 72-page notebook (handwritten) provides a rare glimpse inside da Vinci’s mind, complete with sketches, diagrams, and early iterations of ideas.
