30th june: The anniversary of the siberian tunguska event event in 1908, Where a major explosion happened

Tunguska event in Siberia: When a huge explosion came out from nowhere

Anenormous explosion was reported on June 30, 1908 near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in central Siberia (60°55′ N 101°57′ E), Russia. This explosion was later called as Tunguska event.

The explosion’s energy was estimated to have been equivalent to the explosive force of as much as 15 megatons of TNT which was a thousand times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945.

While some scientists contended that a comet caused the explosion, other scientists maintained that the event was caused by an asteroid. This Tunguska blast charred the forest but did not produce a sustained fire.

The explosion was reported at an altitude of 5–10 km (15,000–30,000 feet), which flattened some 2,000 square km (500,000 acres) and charred more than 100 square km of pine forest.

After over a century of this blast, researchers are still trying to find out reasons for an explosion which ripped through the air above a remote forest in Siberia, near the Podkamennaya Tunguska river.

The fireball is believed to have been 50-100m wide which depleted 2,000 sq km of the taiga forest in the area, flattening about 80 million trees.

The earth trembled and windows smashed in the nearest town over 35 miles (60km) away. Residents there even felt heat from the blast, and some were blown off their feet.

The crash was followed by a noise like stones falling from the sky, or of guns firing

Fortunately, the area in which this massive explosion occurred was sparsely inhabited.

Krishna’s Butterball: This 250 ton rock boulder in Tamil Nadu challenges gravitational force

0

Krishna’s Butterball is a massive 20 feet high and 5 meter wide rock boulder situated in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu which weighs 250 ton and stands on a slippery slope of a hill on less than 4-feet base. This Butterball is a mystery as scientists have been unable to crack the story of how it stands on the slippery terrain overcoming the force of gravity.

Krishna’s Butterball is a 250 ton rock boulder in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu which stands on a slippery slope of a hill on less than 4-feet base.

The position of the rock is quite surprising as it seems to be rolling down the slope. However, it stands still and firm and tourists easily take shade under it. Also, it is unmoved by Tsunami, earthquakes or cyclones for over 1200 years old.

In fact, the rock looks like a half circle as one of its part is sheared off and nobody knows the reason of its erosion. This Krishna’s butterball challenges our modern technology with the question that how is it possible that a 250 ton rock can stand on such a small base of less than 4 sq-feet?

Legends say that it is named as Krishna’s butterball because Krishna loved butter which was his favourite food and the stone has fallen from heaven. It is also known as ‘Vaanirai Kal’ in Tamil which means ‘Stone of the Sky God’.

In 1908, the Governor of Madras Arthur Lawley decided to remove the ball from its location as he feared safety of the town from the base of the hill. For this, he sent seven elephants and tried to move the rock but it didn’t move an inch.

No one knows if it is science or supernatural powers, but it is true that this butterball is giving gravity a competition.

As per legends, the Pallava King Narasimhavarman (ruled South India from 630 to 668 A.D) was the first man to attempt to remove this rock as it was believed that it should not be touched by sculptors for it was heavenly. However, it remained on its position and did not move a little. In fact, the rock is heavier than the monolithic stones of Ollantaytambo, Peru or Machu Picchu.

Further Butterball is an inspiration behind the famous mud dolls called Tanjavur Bommai.

Raja Raja Chola (1000 C.E) was impressed by the way rock stands on such a small base and did not roll down a slope. Thus, a tradition developed from here to make mud dolls that never fell down. This was made on a half-spherical bottom which allows tilting but never falling down.

Zeenat Aman: A bold woman on reel screen has been a weak female in real life

0

Zeenat Aman, crowned Miss Pacific once, was a trendsetter in 70s and 80s and was called as the beauty queen. According to several polls conducted in the 70s, she was the hottest girl in India.

Zeenat Aman can be seen with a smiling face on Indian Idol platform these days, however, her real life has been quite tragic.

This woman who has been bold on screen in reel life has been quite weak in her personal life and has been thrashed physically by two of her husbands, namely, Sanjay Khan and Mazhar Khan.

In fact, Sanjay, thrashed her openly in front of a huge crowd leaving her bleeding profusely. That violent attack left a mark near her eye which has been hiding with her glasses. However, Zeenat never went to complaint against him to police as she said, ‘he has been a man whom she loved.’

Next, she was thrashed by Mazhar Khan too many times but had no respite.

However, this woman of substance, manages to walk with grace and confident as a woman of substance who remains unshaken despite suffering so much in her real life.

Kanwar Lake in Bihar is Asia’s largest freshwater oxbow lake. Know its rare facts here!

1

Kanwar lake is Asia’s largest freshwater oxbow lake which is Bihar’s only Ramsar site, located in Begusarai district. Wanna know a few interesting facts on this lake. Here they are:

The lake is originally spread over 6,786 hectares.

Being a preferred destination for migratory birds, it is home to several rare aquatic species

In 1986, it was notified as a protected area and later, the central government declared it as a sanctuary to stop poaching of birds.

The lake, also known as Kabartal jheel, was declared a Ramsar site following a sustained campaign by environmentalists from across the world, who hoped that the state government might step in to conserve the wetland once it was designated as a wetland of international importance.

However, unrestrained encroachment of land and construction of embankment on Burhi Gandak river near Majhaul village of Begusarai have choked the major water inlet to the wetland and have taken a toll.
