Blue Origin : The very first seat on New Shepard sells for $28 million

Blue Origin, a company of Amazen CEO Jeff Bezos concluded the online auction for the very first seat on New Shepard, to travel to space on July 20, with a winning bid of $28 million and the name of the auction winner will be released in the weeks following the auction’s conclusion.

Then, the fourth and final crew member will be announced.

Nearly 7,600 people registered to bid from 159 countries.

The winning bidder will fly to space on New Shepard’s first human flight on July 20, and will join Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos and his brother Mark.

The first passenger flight of Blue Origin will take off from the launch site Texas on July 20. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said last week that he would fly to space with his brother Mark in this first flight.

Blue Origin is the company of Jeff Bezos. Jeff Bezos is going to step down as the CEO of Amazon on July 5. After him, Andy Jesse will become the CEO of Amazon.

The winning bid amount will be donated to Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future, whose mission is to inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM and to help invent the future of life in space.

On July 20^th, New Shepard will fly its first astronaut crew to space and hence it offered one seat on this first flight to the winning bidder of Blue Origin’s online auction.

History

On this day 60 years ago, Alan Shepard made history by becoming the first American to fly to space. In the decades since, fewer than 600 astronauts have been to space above the Kármán Line to see the borderless Earth and the thin limb of our atmosphere. They all say this experience changes them.

The company named its launch vehicle after Alan Shepard to honor his historic flight. New Shepard has flown 15 successful consecutive missions to space and back above the Kármán Line through a meticulous and incremental flight program to test its multiple redundant safety systems. Now, it’s time for astronauts to climb onboard.

India becomes the fourth largest forex reserves holder after Russia

India’s forex reserves have crossed $600 mark for the first time as on June 4, it stood at $605 billion. With this, India equals Russia as the fourth largest reserve holder worldwide.

India’s forex reserve was $605.008 billion while for Russia it was $605.2 billion.

It took almost a year for reserves to rise by $100 billion.

Huge forex reserves have improved India’s import cover substantially.

By December 2020, foreign exchange reserves cover of imports increased to 18.6 months.

Foreign exchange or Forex reserves

Forex are assets on reserves which are held by central bank in foreign currencies. It includes bonds, treasury bills and other government securities. Most of the foreign exchange reserves are held in U.S. dollars. These reserves serve several purposes and ensure that central bank has backup funds in case national currency rapidly becomes insolvent or devaluate. India’s Forex Reserves include- Gold, Foreign Currency Assets, Special Drawing Rights and Reserve position with International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Foreign Currency Assets

Assets, valued on the basis of currency other than own currency of any country, are called as foreign currency assets. It is the largest component of forex reserve and is expressed in dollar terms.

Special Drawing Rights

These international reserve assets are created by International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1969 which are neither a currency nor a claim on IMF, but a potential claim on freely usable currencies of members of IMF.

Himachal Pradesh: No RT-PCR test required to travel here!

Travelling to Himachal Pradesh will no longer require an RT-PCR test, says the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet adding that corona curfew however shall remain from 5 pm to 5 am.

The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has announced that there would be no requirement of RT-PCR tests for entering HImachal Pradesh. However, the Corona curfew will remain in place from 5 PM to 5 AM.

Meanwhile, a decision was also taken to increase shop timings. They will be allowed to remain open from 9 AM to 5 PM from June 14. However, shops will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

The cabinet has also decided to lift Section 144, and allowed the intrastate public transport with 50 percent occupancy; section 144 has also been lifted. As such, this will facilitate travel of the local population, as well as of travellers.

Naaz Joshi is India’s first transgender international beauty queen who won the international Empress Earth 2021-22 title in a virtual contest.

Naaz Joshi is a Delhi-based transgender female who clinched the Empress Earth 2021-22 title, an international title in a virtual contest, leaving behind Valentina from Colombia as the first runner-up and Olivia from Mexico as the second runner-up.

The contest was scheduled in Dubai on June 1, 2021 but was cancelled due to the pandemic and on the advice of the contestants was held in virtual mode.

Over 15 countries participated in Empress Earth 2021. The countries that entered the top five were Colombia, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, and India.

Final question asked to the top five finalists

Shiksha Setu Yojna is a highly effective scheme launched by Rajasthan Govt. and Women and Child Department to educate the dropout girls, says Neha Gupta Chairman FORTI Woman’s Wing.

FORTI Women Wing recently joined hands with WCD to promote various schemes launched by the state government to support women empowerment and entrepreneurship.

Shiksha Setu Yojana: All about educating dropout girls

A webinar was conducted recently by Neha Gupta (President, FORTI Women Wing) and Dr. Ajay Kaushik (Additional Director, SHG) who joined the platform as a guest speaker.

In this webinar, Ajay Kaushik shared major details on Shiksha Setu Yojna that is one of the schemes launched under Indira Mahila Shakti Nidhi Yojna.

Aim of the scheme

The number of girls dropouts is increasing rapidly in Rajasthan, leading to lack of education in girls. This scheme has been developed to address this issue and aims to educate girls who are dropouts. The objective is to provide an opportunity to dropouts to resume their education.

Last year 78,000 girls appeared for 10th and 12th board exams under this scheme.

Benefits of the scheme

Rajasthan Education dept. runs state open school and dropout girls can enroll themselves in these state open schools free of cost under this scheme.

The WCD bears all the expenses for their education and helps these students to get enrolled in open schools.

Girls who are more than 14 years of age can apply for 10th and 12th board irrespective of the class they last attended.

All the study material is available online. Also, there are various ‘Sandarbh Kendras’ on block level where students can get the required assistance.

There are approximately 4000 ‘Sandarbh kendras’ in entire Rajasthan.

At these kendras, girls can fill the forms and can get the study material free of cost.

Exams are conducted twice a year and student gets maximum of 9 attempts to qualify a particular exam.

World Day Against Child Labour: On the eve of World Day Against Child Labour, Bachpan Bachao Andolan in association with Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation organised a “Consultation on Elimination of Child Labour amid COVID-19 Pandemic”.

Giving a clarion call for ‘Team India Against Child Labour’ on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi urged all ministries, institutes, civil society etc to work together with a shared objective.

“How can we leave our children behind and think of the country’s development? This would be against humanity. COVID-19 pandemic has made children more vulnerable and an alarming increase in child labour has been reported during the last 4 years as well even before the pandemic hit. We need to take new bold steps and add health as the fourth wheel of our work on child protection, which includes the right to education, poverty elimination and eradication of child labour. I urge the government to makeRight To Health a Fundamental Right and make adequate budgetary allocations for health and education needs of children.”

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Santosh Gangwar addressed the inaugural session of“Consultation on the Elimination of Child Labour Amid the Covid-19 Pandemic” as the Chief Guest.

Supporting Satyarthi’s call on bringing stakeholders together as “Team India Against Child Labour”, he said, “As the Labour Minister I am focussed on bringing justice and access to rights by all children. As COVID-19 is leading to rise in cases of child labour, we have to ensure child protection. It is one of our government’s top priorities to meet the goals and targets on ending child labour. Over the last few years, we have taken some important steps in this regard. We have to ponder over how we can provide access to education and health and care to children, who have been affected by COVID-19. I look up to the action points coming from Shri Satyarthi and his organisation and work towards including them in our future roadmap.”

Representatives of various government agencies, law enforcement bodies and civil society members participated in the deliberations and drew up an action plan mapping the road ahead to eliminate child labour.

Child Labour: Global estimates 2020, trends and the road forward

The latest report by ILO and UNICEF has brought to light alarming figures and said that for the first time in the last two decades the global progress to end child labour has been stalled leading to an increase of 8.4 million children in child labour in the last four years alone. Globally, the number of children in child labour has now gone up to 160 million.

In this backdrop particularly when COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore daunting challenges like never before, there is an urgent need to re-introspect the strategies for prevention and protection of children from the exploitation of all forms to ensure their holistic rehabilitation through access to education, health, statutory compensation and socio-economic welfare schemes.

Mandalas are believed to represent different aspects of the universe and are used as instruments of meditation and symbols of prayer most notably in China, Japan, and Tibet.
