Janmashtami 2021 special: Re-visit Krishna’s childhood days in Nand Bhawan in Gokul!

Janmashtami 2021: As we get ready to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna, the EBNW Story takes you to the lanes of Gokul where Krishna spent his childhood days. Let’s visit the Nand Bhawan first which is also called as Chaurasi Khamba Temple.

Nand Bhawan situated in Gokul is the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood days after his parents were imprisoned by his maternal uncle King Kansa.

The house belonged to Nand Baba, who raised Lord Krishna along with his wife Yashoda.

The place still echoes the era of mother-son bond with beautiful paintings and pictures recreating the era of yesteryears when Krishna played with Yashoda.

In fact, devotees crawl like a kid while going inside the temple to offer their prayers.

Devotees crawl in Nand Bhavan the same way Krishna used to crawl here during his childhood days!

The place is called as Chaurasi Khamba temple because it rests on 84 pillars.

As per the mythological legend, “Lord Krishna and his brother Balarama’s name giving ceremony was conducted here in a cowshed which lies in close proximity to the temple.”

A few stairs take you to the main entrance of the temple, which opens to a large courtyard.

The walls of the temple will leave you mesmerised bespeaking the stories of Lord Krishna depicting playful episodes from his childhood.

If you have a question that why does the temple has exactly 84 steps, and not one more or less, then you will find answer in religious scriptures in Hinduism where number 84 signifies the 84,00,000 species of life in the material world. Therefore, when clubbed together, the pillars are believed to contain all life existing in the universe.

The temple also has a banyan tree situated in the courtyard of the temple, where devotees tie colourful ribbons on its branches.

The temple reflects an aura of timelessness, as the ancient pillars and brackets are believed to be the same place Yashoda used to tie Krishna with Okhli.

The Global Desi by Sundeep Bhutoria : English ‘mirch-masala’

The Global Desi: Reflections on Home and Away, a new book released by Sundeep Bhutoria’s, which is sixth from his Kolkata based wordy-stable, has hit the stands. A Macmillan publication with nearly 360 pages decodes the Indian-ness of a person who has  travelled overseas without losing his long ‘kurta-pyjamas.’  Read the book review by Harshvardhan.

The Global Desi by Sundeep Bhutoria

The ‘desi’ probably has found full-throated amplification. It is amidst humdrum of overseas crowd-clan. Unhesitatingly, he sings about his traditional moorings, adding colloquial euphemism.

The author intelligently saves his readers from dozing off by dividing the entire text in three segments: Travel and Food, Social Issues, and Literature. He is a celebrated social mammal. So readers would expect usual charade about what he breathes and encourages others to inhale more than what his large lungs could absorb. It is the food that he has tried to decipher, separating red chilly from yellow turmeric, so to say. No doubt he has flaunted, as he names them, some top-of-table restaurants. So here is an account of each one as though he was a salesman. But the ‘desi’ bounces back,  “I always carry India in my heart wherever I go…”

Social filibuster appears to be his top-seeded milieu. He excels in rubbing shoulders with men, women, and possibly animals and birds too. Starving in Incheon, Wafting Indian Aromas in Brazil, Rajesh Khanna cooks in Malaysia, The Indian Pulse of Montreal, etc., are some scorching head-lights he throws at weak-eyed readers. Too obvious, he sheds his oft-adored cultural armour as he dedicates it to Sujangarh, “my native place where it (?) all began.”

This scribe is nostalgic of his stay at its PWD Rest House on western fringe of the sleepy town, as Tal Chhapar, a sanctuary in Churu, then had no night halt facility.

The Global Desi by Sundeep Bhutoria

The book, nay Sundeep scores a hurried ton (at The Lords?) through the remaining sixty pages. Here he deploys a delectable mix of idioms, nouns, verbs, adjectives, epithets, etc., for an event in Jaipur that sings for ‘literature.’ He appears ecstatic elated at its venue. One should admire his honesty when he states that the  Jaipur Literature Festival had been “an initiative of Jaipur Virasat Foundation.” But he questions in next breath:  “Or is it Teamwork Arts…. Or is it Sanjoy Roy… or Namita Gokhle…or William Dalrymple….?” Too obvious, his psyche is hovering  among the organizing blokes. He has to make mileage. Yet his strong-business-acumen attempts an emphatic gallop audit of the Festival. It looks like he would spare none.  He spared all.  Jesting Pilate said, what is Truth and did not stay for an answer!

World Organ Donation Day 2021: This day offers a chance to return forward and pledge for organ donation after death as the effort can save several lives of people. There are many myths and fears in people’s minds thanks to a scarcity of awareness on organ donation and hence comes the day to make people aware of the same.

About Organ Donation

Organ donation includes retrieving a donor’s organ which include heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, and pancreas after the donor death and then transplanting it into another human being who is in need of an organ.

In fact, organ donation can be defined as the process of retrieving a person’s organ from a living or dead person, also called as a donor, then transplanting it into a recipient.

The recipient in this case is a patient who is affected by organ failure and who has rare chances of  survival unless he or she receives an organ replacement.

Organ Donation: Types of Organ Donors

There are two sorts of organ donors: Living and Deceased donors

Living donor: A healthy person, willing to donate an organ, is called a living donor. The living donors are usually over 18 years old and are subjected to many health assessments both mental and physical.

Deceased donors: A deceased donor is a person who has just died. This person or their family member decides to donate healthy organs at the time of death in order to benefit people who need transplants.

Organ Donation: Facts

A donated liver from someone who has died can be split into two pieces and transplanted into two different people to save many lives.

A living donor can donate some of his or her lever to needy and therefore the remaining portion will regenerate to almost its full previous size.

Heart: A heart can survive for 4-6 hours only after being donated.

Pancreas: Pancreas are often transplanted into an ailing patient from a deceased donor. In fact, a living donor can donate some of the pancreas and still retain pancreas functionality
