World Blood Donor Day 2024

World Blood Donor Day happens every June 14th. It started in 2004 and is organized by four big international groups: the World Health Organization, the Red Cross, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations, and the International Society of Blood Transfusion. The goal is to remind people about the importance of giving blood safely and to thank those who donate blood to save lives.

Theme 2024

The theme for World Blood Donor Day 2024 is ’20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank You Blood Donors!’ This theme was picked because it’s been 20 years since we started celebrating World Blood Donor Day, and it’s a way to say a big thank you to all the people who have donated blood selflessly over these years. It’s also a reminder that there are still challenges to overcome, like making sure everyone has access to safe blood when they need it.

History

Every year on June 14th, people around the world observe World Blood Donor Day. This date was chosen because it’s the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian scientist who played a big role in blood transfusion. Landsteiner discovered the ABO blood groups in 1901 and the Rhesus factor in 1937, which made blood transfusions safer for patients.

In 2004, four important global organizations—the World Health Organization (WHO), the Red Cross, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations (IFBDO), and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT)—came together to officially recognize World Blood Donor Day. It was first celebrated in 2005 during the fifty-eighth World Health Assembly.

Significance

Donating blood is very important for many medical treatments like surgeries, childbirth, cancer care, and helping accident victims. But in many places, especially in poorer countries, it’s hard to get safe blood. That’s why it’s crucial for people to give blood regularly and willingly. World Blood Donor Day reminds everyone how vital these donations are and encourages more people to give blood regularly.

To celebrate World Blood Donor Day 2024, there will be lots of activities all around the world. These include saying thank you to blood donors, spreading the word on social media, and special events like concerts or workshops. Chennai to Host International Plastics Expo Between 14 – 17 June 2024

The Tamil Nadu Plastics manufacturers Association (TAPMA), the apex body of 8500+ plastics processors in the state, is organising IPLAS an International Plastics Exhibition on June 14 – 17, 2024 at Chennai Trade Centre.

This is the sixth in the series since 2005 and the highlights of this edition are Exhibition space 17500 sq.m. 300+ exhibitors from all over India including a few from China. There are more than 90 live demos in the event. The wide exhibit profile covers machinery, materials, moulds and dies, printing and converting machinery and auxiliaries. This exhibition will help expansions or new start ups in the plastics sector. Visitors will get new project ideas and can find all under one roof. 

Over 40,000 visitors are expected to visit and benefit from this international event. The visitors will come from neighbouring states and other parts of India too. TAPMA is supporting with hospitality for international visitors from Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar and Kenya also. Like previous editions this edition also will facilitate growth in the sector besides adding jobs for the youth in the coming years. This expo is likely to see purchase of new machinery to the tune of Rs. 1000 crores and this will create vibrancy and new jobs also

TAPMA is also organising WOPS – world of plastics, a theme pavilion to create a fresh awareness about plastics, its contributions and the ways of disposing it post use. This theme pavilion will promote segregation at source and also recycling of plastics waste. There will be an interactive Virtual Reality Videos and games for the school children. on display will be a wide range of long-lasting furniture made from post-consumer comingled waste picked up municipal waste. Invitation is being extended to school / college students, resident associations and officials of corporation and other local bodies engaged in solid waste management.

Unveiling the Mysteries of Patal Bhuvaneshwar where Lord Ganesha’s Severed Head is still kept

According to ancient Puranic texts, the severed head of Lord Ganesha is believed to reside in a mystical cave known as Patal Bhuvaneshwar, located in the serene hills of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. This cave, shrouded in legends and spiritual significance, is not just a testament to Hindu mythology but also a marvel of natural beauty and divine architecture.

The Mythical Origins

The story begins with Lord Shiva, who, in a fit of anger, severed the head of his son, Ganesha. On the pleading of Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva replaced Ganesha’s head with that of a young elephant, thereby bringing him back to life. However, the question arises: where did the original head of Ganesha fall? According to the Puranas, the severed head fell in the Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave, where it remains to this day, protected by the divine presence of Lord Shiva.

The Discovery of Patal Bhuvaneshwar

The cave, situated 14 kilometers from Gangolihat in Pithoragarh, is said to have been discovered by Adi Shankaracharya in the Kali Yuga. This sacred site, nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, offers not just spiritual solace but also an intriguing glimpse into ancient myths and beliefs.

The Divine Symbolism

Inside the cave, an idol of Lord Ganesha, known as Adi Ganesha, is adorned with a unique 108-petaled Brahma Kamal. This sacred flower is believed to drip divine water onto the head of Adi Ganesha, symbolizing eternal blessings. According to legends, this Brahma Kamal was established by Lord Shiva himself, adding to the cave’s sanctity and mystique.

Legends and Beliefs

Another fascinating belief is that after Lord Shiva severed Ganesha’s head, it ascended to the moon. This belief is deeply ingrained in religious traditions, where devotees offer Arghya (a ritual offering) and moon-gazing on Sankat Chaturthi, seeking Ganesha’s blessings for the removal of obstacles and good fortune.

The Ancient Kings and the Pandavas

The cave’s historical significance is further enhanced by tales of its discovery by King Rituparna of the Surya dynasty in the Treta Yuga. It is said that the king was guided into the cave by Surplus, the king of serpents, where he was granted divine visions of the gods and Lord Shiva. The Pandavas, during the Dwapar Yuga, also rediscovered this cave and used it as a place of worship. Skanda Purana mentions that Mahadev Shiva himself resides in Patal Bhuvaneshwar, attracting deities who come to worship him.

For those drawn to adventure and spirituality, Patal Bhuvaneshwar offers a unique blend of both. The best time to visit this mystical cave is from March to June or during the colder months from October to February, avoiding the monsoon season.
