Destroy heat waves before it destroys you.

0

Muskan student of Saksham Sanchar Foundation shared an informative and detailed article on heat waves.

Heat wave – A condition which occurs mostly in high pressure areas where heat is trapped and can’t be ventilated . Mainly it is declared when temperature crosses a particular limit.

As per IMD – In India when temperature of plains rises above 40 degree , in hilly areas above 30 degree and in coastal areas above 37 degree than a heat wave will be declared.

Year 2022 – called as Hottest Summer Ever , hottest summer in 122 years.

Year 2023 – summer 2023 was hottest in 2,000 years.

Year 2024 – Breaks all the records,  hottest January ever, hottest February ever, hottest March ever as well as hottest April ever.

  • In Philippines,  heat index had crossed 55 degree Celsius.
  • Terrible drought in South Africa, this type of drought was last seen in 1947 there.
  • In first week of May fire at many places in India.
Destroy heat waves before it destroys you.

Reasons –

1. Main reasons – Global warming and climate change.

2. Biggest reason – Earth and Sun relation.

3. 2nd biggest reason – El Nino effect and La Nino effect.

4.Urban heat island effect – mainly it states that places with more trees have relatively more comfartable temperature . Because the glasses , concrete and asphalt absorb heat.

Destroy heat waves before it destroys you.

El Nino effect – natural phenomenon which repeats after 5-7 years, but it is becoming more extreme due to climate change.

Mainly seen in Pacific ocean,  wind flows from east to west direction which are called trade winds, due to coriolis effect. Due to it the hot water from American flows towards Australia and Asia , due to which there is cold water on surface of America. Due to hot water formation of clouds increases and there is more rain in Australia and Asia also a cold climate in America.

Destroy heat waves before it destroys you.

It continues for 6 to 12 months. Weaker the trade winds upwelling of water doesn’t happen and there will be rain anywhere in Pacific ocean which leads to hot and dry season in Australia and South Asia.

So mainly it changes the weather pattern of world in Australia and Asia there is hot and dry season due to it and More rain in South America .

  • Like There was devasting flood in Brazil in first week of May .
Destroy heat waves before it destroys you.

La Nino effect- opposite to El Nino effect,  have longer effects and last one was in 2021 – 2023.

Scientists believe that it can start in July, August and due to it India will receive better monsoon than ever.

Temperature is not only much useful measure , because as humidity increases the level of heat increase and it is more hard for our body to do sweating ,due to which it remains hot and very hard to bear it.

Heat Index – tells us the temperature which is actually feels by us.

Destroy heat waves before it destroys you.

From it we can easily understand that how much humidity effects the climate and temperature. As example: if temperature is 29 degree Celsius and humidity is 70 % than it feels like 34 degree Celsius there is so much difference.

These are small acts but have big impacts.

Some basic impacts of heat waves on life :

1.Wildfires

2.Crop damage

3.Health issues

4.Impact on GDP

5.Reduced working days : affect livelihood of poors.

6.Electricity demand increases

7.Milk production decreased : reaserch at Cornell University estimates it .

8.Impact on environment.

9.Effects air quality.

Some solutions for this problem:

1.Plant more and more trees as possible,  so let’s join hands to plant more seeds.

2.Reduce using Ac : it produce too much heat.

3.Radiant cooling : a new technology, in it pipes are installed in walls and cold water flows through them and it  keeps house cold.

4. Use natural things as much as possible.

5.Paint your houses with white and light colours : dark colour absorb heat and light colours reflect heat so there will be difference in temperature to 2 to 3 degree Celsius.

6.Energy conservation.

7.Heat preparedness plans : should include early warning systems, communication strategies establishment of cooling centres etc.

8.Public awareness and education about it.

9.Promote public transport .

10.Use eco-friendly things as possible.

So there are so many other measures also to conserve our mother nature and us from these heat waves and drastic climate changes.

Save Earth today to live tomorrow.

Conclusion: The main thing is that these heat waves and scorching summers are too much harmful for us and have severe harmful effect for our nature. We must do something for it because often when we are at end of something we are at the beginning of something else so let’s make our Earth cool and green again.

World Music Day 2024

0

World Music Day is a yearly celebration held on June 21 to support music and its worldwide language. On this day, individuals are encouraged to play music in outdoor settings like neighborhoods and parks.

The primary aim of this event is to promote music, with both amateur and professional musicians encouraged to perform in public spaces under the slogan ‘Faites de la musique’.

Theme 2024

The theme for World Music Day 2024 is ‘The collaboration of diverse musical forms’.

History

In October 1981, at the request of Jack Lang, Maurice Fleuret became the Director of Music and Dance at the French Ministry of Culture. He focused on the transformation of musical practice, highlighting “music everywhere and concerts nowhere.” His vision was sparked by a 1982 study revealing that five million people in France, with one in two being young, played musical instruments. This led him to envision a way to bring music to the streets, culminating in the inaugural Fête de la Musique in Paris in 1982.

Since then, this festival has evolved into an international phenomenon. Celebrated in over 700 cities across 120 countries, including India, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, the US, the UK, and Japan.

In the Anglosphere, this day is now recognized as Make Music Day and World Music Day.

Reach and Impact

In 2019, 120 countries took part in Fête de la Musique, with over 1,000 cities participating worldwide. By 2023, events were happening on most continents.

Italy’s Festa della Musica started in 1985 and became a national event in 1994.

The UK’s event originally began as National Music Day in 1992. Make Music Day UK transitioned into an independent organization in 2022.

Since 2013, Ukraine has hosted the event in Lviv, persisting even during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In the United States, the Make Music Alliance was established in 2014 to help organize activities nationally. In 2023, 4,791 free concerts took place across 117 U.S. cities, including over 100 in Cincinnati, Madison, New York City, Philadelphia, and Salem.

In 2018, the Australian Music Association (AMA) introduced Make Music Day Australia, which has been co-hosted by AMA and the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) since 2022. In 2023, a global initiative named “Make Music, Make Friends” brought together 10 Australian schools with international schools to exchange music and greetings on Make Music Day. Make Music Days were first celebrated in Turkey and Ghana in 2022, followed by South Africa in 2023.

How to celebrate

Here are some ways we can celebrate World Music Day:

  • Listen to music
Enjoy the music you love or explore new tunes. Attend free concerts in parks, outdoor venues, or public spaces.
  • Play music
Share your musical talents in public areas, parks, or your local community. You can even start learning to play a new instrument by using online guides and tutorials.
  • Get involved
Volunteer with a music organization to teach, fundraise, or help with event cleanup.
  • Create a playlist
Encourage each group to curate a playlist on a streaming platform, allowing participants to select a track and explain why they chose it.

The Story of the Man Who Moved a Mountain: Dashrath Manjhi

0

In the quiet and rugged landscape of the Gehlour Hills in Bihar, India, lies an extraordinary story of resilience, determination, and an unyielding spirit. This is the story of Dashrath Manjhi, a landless laborer and an untouchable from the Musahar community, who single-handedly carved a 360-kilometer road through a mountain, transforming the lives of thousands.

The Unyielding Determination

It was the year 1960. The people of the Musahar settlement, where Manjhi and his family lived, faced daily hardships. To access basic facilities such as hospitals, schools, and water supplies, they had to undertake a grueling 75-kilometer trek up and down the mountain. Manjhi himself would climb this mountain daily to work in the fields of a landlord on the other side, just to feed his family. His wife, Falguni Devi, would bring him lunch, navigating the treacherous slopes.

One fateful afternoon, Falguni was late, and Manjhi, growing anxious, soon discovered the reason—she was bleeding and badly injured from a fall down the mountain slope. Her tears and pain struck a chord deep within Manjhi. In that moment, he resolved to change the fate of his village. Selling the family’s three goats, he bought a chisel, hammer, and crowbars, determined to carve a road through the mountain. His sole aim was to provide his people with easier access to basic amenities.

The Herculean Task

Manjhi’s resolve was met with ridicule and disbelief. The villagers laughed at him, scoffing at the idea of a single man carving a road through a mountain. But Manjhi was undeterred. He would work in the fields during the day and return to his labor of love by dusk, chipping away at the rock. Using firewood to heat the rock and water to crack it, he slowly reduced the mountain to rubble, inch by inch.

Years passed, and what began as a solitary effort began to gain the attention and support of the villagers. They started helping him, providing food for his family and affectionately calling him ‘Baba.’ Manjhi’s efforts were transforming not just the mountain, but the spirit of the community.

A Personal Tragedy and Unwavering Resolve

Tragedy struck when Manjhi’s wife fell seriously ill. Due to the lack of timely medical intervention, she passed away. This heart-wrenching loss only fueled Manjhi’s determination. He vowed to complete the path he had started, channeling his grief into his monumental task.

After 22 years of relentless effort, Manjhi completed the road. The path, 360 kilometers long and 30 feet wide, reduced the distance to basic amenities from 75 kilometers to a mere five. This road benefitted not just his village but 60 surrounding villages, a testament to his unwavering spirit.

Recognition and Legacy

Manjhi’s remarkable feat did not go unnoticed. He sought and received an audience with the then Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, who, in a gesture of profound respect, offered Manjhi his seat. This was a monumental gesture, considering the severe oppression faced by the Musahar caste in caste-ridden India.

Sadly, Manjhi passed away the following year after a prolonged battle with cancer. However, his legacy endures. His battle against unfavorable circumstances and his will to change his people’s destiny remain an inspiration. Today, Dashrath Manjhi is remembered as the “Mountain Man,” a symbol of perseverance and hope. His story continues to inspire millions, reminding us all of the power of an unyielding spirit.
