Area 51, it’s a very vast and large area in the middle of the barren desert of Nevada located at Groom lake, which is strictly gaurded by the US force.

There are many Conspiracy theories about this place, including some claiming that the place is connected to aliens and some saying that the place is being used for experiments on the aliens.

Many times people claim and try to emphasize that there is some kind of UFOs which are hidden from us. An American folklorist ,writer, investigator and skeptic Benjamin Radford comes to the story as he is famous for writing stories for the same. Him being the deputy editor of Skeptical Inquirer magazine has written about many Conspiracy theories of Area 51. Randford once told to the people and media that the place is called Area 51 but it is different in case of US government to them the place is Nevada Test and Training Range, part of Edwards Air Force Base.
But for what it’s really used for ?
According to the military the place is a Military Operating Area. If you’ll visit there near the place there are fences and many sign boards around it indicating the area is strictly prohibited and you would need the legal permissions to go in there.

The area is used for testing site for the U-2 spy plane and the place will be used for testing of other aircrafts too in the future. Talking about UFO sightings, it is claimed that the lights from the base and the flying of aircrafts by the US force is confused by the people as UFOs but no one really knows what’s going on in there except the people working there.

Surya Hospitals organizes a Health and Screening Camp with Tribal Community

In an effort to promote health awareness and provide necessary knowledge to the community, a health and screening camp on Sickle Cell Disease was organized by Surya Hospitals in a rural village of Vasai, Maharashtra recently.

The event featured educational talks by Dr. Vandana Bansal and Dr. Nisha Iyer, which reached over 100 students. Additionally, Adivasi residents who were present at the camp were tested for the HPLB gene to evaluate their susceptibility to Sickle cell disease. Participants also had the opportunity to consult with doctors and receive valuable information on preventive care and healthy lifestyle choices.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vandana Bansal, Director, Department of Fetal Medicine, Consultant Obstetrics & Gynecology, Surya Hospitals said, “Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic hemoglobin disorder common amongst the tribal population of India. According to the census, Scheduled Tribes constitute 8.6 per cent of the country’s total population and 11.3 per cent of the total rural population. Requiring lifelong management, Sickle Cell Disease contributes to significant morbidity and mortality amongst the affected infants and children. In India, there are many comprehensive guidelines for prevention of the disease developed jointly by the Government of Health and Family Welfare and the Government of Tribal Affairs. But because of lack of awareness those guidelines are not fructified. So, we have organized the camp to make people understand and give them a basic knowledge about the disease. Hope, through this initiative, we can strengthen our commitment to combating this disease.” 

Dr. Nisha Iyer, Pediatric Hemato Oncologist and BMT Physician, Surya Hospitals stated, “The initiative aimed to enhance health literacy among college students and the Adivasi population, identifying individuals at risk of Sickle cell disease. Regular health screenings are important for early detection and prevention of diseases. Events like these play a vital role in promoting overall well-being and empowering individuals to take charge of their health.” She also added, “The success of the camp would not have been possible without the support of volunteers, and community members who came together with us to make this camp a reality. We, Surya Hospitals, extends its gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the health camp.”

Sickle Cell is an inherited blood type disease in which a genetic mutation causes abnormal hemoglobin to clump together and soften red blood cells. Sickle cells cause blood clots, which can lead to bleeding, pain, infections and other serious problems. People with sickle cell disease carry only one defective gene and usually live normal lives, but they can pass that gene on to their children. Therefore, it is important that adults and newborns undergo medical examinations for the disease.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Movie Review: Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan Shine in a Visually Stunning Drama

Director Nag Ashwin’s ambitious mythology-inspired science fiction film, Kalki 2898 AD, features a brilliant Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas. This visually stunning drama soars high but falls just short of being a game-changer.

We need not look beyond Indian epics for riveting, complex stories of good versus evil, superheroes and demons, darkness and dawn. In Kalki 2898 AD, Ashwin blends stories from the Mahabharata with a futuristic, dystopian science fiction world, underlining that heroes are not born but rise. The masterstroke lies in casting the indefatigable Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama, the oldest human alive from the Kurukshetra war, and making him the backbone of the narrative. He is pitted against Bhairava (Prabhas), setting the stage for the arrival of Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu. The film takes giant leaps of faith and has awe-inducing segments. Is Kalki 2898 AD a game-changer? In terms of ambition, yes. In terms of writing and storytelling, there are niggles.

The narrative goes back and forth from the Kurukshetra war to Kasi and Shambala, 6000 years after the war. Kasi is depicted as the last surviving city but everything is in shambles. The mighty Ganges has dried up, and food is scarce. Everything required to support life — water, food, and air — is within a Complex, a towering inverted pyramid structure that is out of bounds for common folks, and governed by Supreme Yaskin or Kali (Kamal Haasan). Shambala is a hidden refuge for people from different faiths and cultures who are willing to risk their lives for a better tomorrow.

Kalki 2898 AD (Telugu, dubbed in other languages)

  • Storyline: Around 6000 years after the Kurukshetra war, Ashwatthama gears up for his final battle at the sign of hope in a dystopian world
  • Duration: 181 minutes

A lot has gone into building these worlds — the Kurukshetra battlefield, Kasi, Shambala, and the Complex. Kalki attempts to immerse the audience in the battles and unlikely partnerships between these worlds on a massive scale. It isn’t only narrating a good-over-evil story featuring superheroes and demons. It also tries to pay homage to Telugu classics, contemporary mainstream ‘mass’ cinema, and the penchant for comedies. Some of this works, while others seem misfit. For instance, two popular directors appear in cameos; these portions might have been better suited for Instagram reels and memes but seem out of place in this story.

In the runtime of 181 minutes, the first half goes into setting up the tale and establishing Bhairava as a laidback bounty hunter who is yet to find his true calling. He wants to earn one million units (a measure of currency) and enter the Complex to lead a good life. But his moral compass remains ambiguous. Bhairava’s introduction and his taking on a dozen men, at the surface, seems like a staple of any Telugu film with an A-list star. The payoff for this happens later when he locks horns with Ashwatthama in a prolonged but delightful sequence. That is when one truly appreciates the Bujji and Bhairava connection.

Bujji (Bu-jz-1, with a voiceover by Keerthy Suresh) is Bhairava’s AI (artificial intelligence)-powered custom-made vehicle. Bhairava and Bujji share an uncanny partnership but we get only a passing statement about the origin story of Bujji. The animation prequel series Bujji and Bhairava (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) is packed with more fun. The same goes for the bond between Bhairava and his landlord (Brahmanandam). The dialogues (by Nag Ashwin and Sai Madhav Burra) do not always hit the mark.

The romance track between Bhairava and Roxie (Disha Patani) is a deterrent, and I waited for the story to move on. Roxie is brought in for a reason — to introduce Bhairava and the audience to the Complex, but there could have been better ways to do this. Some other cameos in the initial portions also miss the mark, save the one played by Mrunal Thakur. The actor shown as Bhairava’s father and two other cameos that get a blink-and-miss appearance in the song featuring Bhairava and Roxie serve more as nods to those who featured in Vyjayanthi Films’ earlier ventures rather than add depth to the world of Kalki. Oh, there are other cameos as well in the Mahabharata portions that serve as a surprise.

The standout moments in the first half include the introduction of evil as the supreme Yaskin, with Kamal Haasan relishing the ominous turn, SUM-80 or Sumati (Deepika Padukone) as a lab rat yearning for a better life and motherhood, and Ashwatthama realizing that the time has come for his final battle.

Kalki 2898 AD finds its groove in the later portions, providing the much-needed emotional gravitas through Sumati. Mariam (Shobhana), Veeran (Pasupathy), and Kyra (Anna Ben) are among the several other characters. There are the masked raiders (costume design by Archana Rao) of the Complex, hundreds of them in dark attire, locking horns with the Shambala army in hues of white. When we get a closer look at the inhabitants of Shambala, cutting across cultures and faiths, and why they look for hope, it makes an impact. Between the action episodes involving futuristic machines, some moments underline how life as we know it has changed beyond recognition. Sumati trying to comprehend the idea of marriage and life thereafter, for instance. However, the writing is not free of predictable arcs. When a character reiterates that her name stands for good luck, we know what comes next.

For all the gradual building of the world and the characters in the first hour, the payoffs come in the form of battles involving Ashwatthama (referred to at one point as ‘angry giant man’), Bhairava, Bujji who transforms into a giant machine, and commander Manas (Saswata Chatterjee) with futuristic guns, laser-powered detonators, flying machines, and more. As a visual spectacle, it is magnificent on the large screen and Kalki sets a new benchmark. “It is always darkest just before the day,” goes a statement by 17th-century scholar Thomas Fuller. The essence of his words echoes across cultures and faiths. When the world is torn apart with strife and people are distraught to a point of breaking down, hope and light cannot be far away. Cinematographer Djordje Stojiljkovic and the production team led by Nitin Zihani Choudhary paint a brooding dark world, bathed in muddy browns and ominous blacks, and hope comes in the form of sunlight that struggles to stream in, a hint of glow and warmth from the fire, and so on.

Making his character appear every bit larger than life is Amitabh Bachchan as the mighty Ashwatthama, supposedly standing tall at nearly eight feet. He towers over everyone else, and his demeanor shows who is the boss. He looks utterly believable when he tosses men and machines into the air. Kalki also plays to the strengths of the stardom of Prabhas, with the actor gamely trying to be a modern-day superhero with an attitude to boot. A reveal towards the final portions is a big, pleasant surprise and builds anticipation for the Kalki Cinematic Universe (yes, there will be part two). Despite this, the end also felt abrupt rather than a cliffhanger. The music too is a bit hit-and-miss. Santhosh Narayanan pays rich homage to the Bhagavad Gita and old Telugu classics and then stunningly transitions into a futuristic gaming zone realm. However, the songs take some getting used to.

Kalki’s narrative has several subtexts to decode long after the film is over. The parallels drawn between Yaskin and Kamsa, the design of the Complex, the surroundings of Yaskin, and the flying machine used by Manas. There is a lot to root for. If only it had sidestepped the lackluster romance and the underwhelming dialogues to make for a more cohesive narrative. Despite these shortcomings, Kalki is a brave new attempt that deserves big cheers.

Cooking competition judged by Chef Lalit Mohan added excitement, and community service at The Earth Saviours Foundation, led by Mr. Jas Kalra, emphasized empathy and giving back.


The program concluded with Mr. Sushant Kalra from the Parwarish Institute of Parenting sharing insights on communication with teens. During the grand ceremony, parents proudly witnessed their children’s project presentations, reflecting a week of significant learning and development.

Maluti Temples: The Vanishing Cultural Heritage

Maluti Temples are a group of 72 temples, which earlier used to be 108. These temples are situated in Maluti village in Jharkhand and now both the temples and village are now declared as one of the world’s 12 most endangered cultural heritage sites by Global Heritage Fund.

I am pretty sure that many of you had no idea about this place cause these temples remained unknown to the outside world until 1979, when A.K. Sinha, the Director of Archaeology for the Government of Bihar, first brought them to public attention.

History

The history of these temples is tied to the gift of the Maluti kingdom, once known as “Nankar Raj”. This kingdom was granted to a Brahmin named Basanta by the Muslim ruler Alauddin Husain Shah of Gaura (1495–1525) as a reward for saving and returning his hawk. Basanta was honored with the title Raja, becoming Raja Baj Basanta. Being a devoutly religious man, Basanta chose to build temples rather than palaces. His family, later divided into four clans, continued constructing temples in their capital, Maluti, inspired by their family deity, goddess Mowlakshi. The name Maluti is believed to be derived from Mallahati, named after the Malla Kings of Bankura. According to the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development (ITRHD), these temples were built between the 17th and 19th centuries.

Features

Initially, there were 108 temples built in the village within an area of 350 meters (1,150 feet), all dedicated to Lord Shiva. Today, only 72 of these temples still stand, but many are in poor condition, and 36 have been lost. While many temples are dedicated to various gods and goddesses like Shiva, Durga, Kali, and Vishnu, the main deity is goddess Mauliksha.

In addition to the Shiva temples, there are eight temples dedicated to Goddess Kali. There is also a temple for a saint named Bamakhyapa, where his trident is worshiped. Another important temple is dedicated to Manasa Devi. The Baj Basanta dynasty’s family deity, goddess Mauliksha, is widely worshiped, and devotees visit her temple throughout the year. The goddess is depicted facing west and is believed to be the elder sister of goddess Tara.

The temples, built in various styles popular in Bengal at the time, were designed by Bengali artisans. These styles are grouped into five categories, none of which are in the architectural styles of Nagara, Vesara, or Dravida. According to McCutchion, these temples follow the Cara-cala design, featuring a square chamber with an internal dome built over pendentives, and corbelled cornices that make the roof look like a hut.

The temples are decorated with sculptures depicting episodes from the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana, as well as the battle between Durga and Mahishasura. Some temples also have carvings of village life. There are a few inscriptions on the temples that provide information about their construction and the socio-political history of that time. These inscriptions, written in early Bengali script, combine elements of Sanskrit, Prakrit, and Bengali, and are dated according to the “shaka era” (Indian national calendar).

Steps takes for conservation

Efforts to conserve the Maluti temples began with an NGO called “Save Heritage and Environment (SHE),” which sought help from the Global Heritage Fund (GHF). Together with the Indian Trust for Rural and Heritage Development, GHF conducted a study to develop conservation plans for the temples. This study outlined the specific needs and threats for each temple and identified potential international organizations for funding and expertise. It emphasized preserving the traditional terracotta tiled roofs and recommended involving the local community through education and awareness to ensure their active participation in the conservation process. The GHF has now listed Maluti and its temples among “the world’s twelve vanishing cultural heritage sites,” with Maluti being the only site from India on the list.
