Welcome to this house of Delhi, A Home with AQI of 10 Amid Toxic Air

0

Amidst Delhi’s severe pollution, where the Air Quality Index (AQI) often exceeds hazardous levels, a house in Sainik Farms has emerged as a remarkable example of sustainable living. Owned by Peter Singh and Neeno Kaur, this eco-friendly residence maintains an AQI between 5 and 15—a stark contrast to the city’s average AQI of over 300 during peak pollution seasons.

This achievement is a result of innovative and sustainable design. The house is built using traditional materials like lime mortar instead of cement and features stone-tiled roofs to regulate indoor temperatures naturally. Over 15,000 air-purifying plants are integrated into the property, including rooftop gardens and green walls, ensuring consistently clean indoor air.

The house is entirely off-grid, powered by solar energy. It also has a 15,000-liter rainwater harvesting system and reuses water to irrigate its greenery, promoting water conservation. Furthermore, the couple practices organic farming, growing vegetables year-round. They even use agricultural stubble, a major contributor to Delhi’s pollution, as compost for cultivating mushrooms.

The transformation of this home was inspired by Neeno Kaur’s health challenges after battling cancer. Her compromised lungs struggled with Delhi’s air, prompting the couple to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. Their journey turned their home into a sanctuary of health and sustainability.

This residence not only highlights the potential for green living in urban settings but also serves as a model for tackling pollution and climate challenges in one of the world’s most polluted cities.

Preserving Heritage: 23 States to Develop 40 Iconic Sites into New Tourism Hubs

0

The Central Government of India has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform 40 iconic locations across 23 states into prominent tourism hubs. One such remarkable inclusion is the 600-year-old Rang Ghar, a historical pavilion from the Ahom dynasty located in Assam’s Sivasagar district.

A Glimpse into Asia’s First Pavilion

The Rang Ghar, believed to be Asia’s first pavilion, stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and cultural grandeur. This two-storied structure was constructed using baked bricks and features no metal reinforcements. Ingeniously, the bricks were bound with a unique adhesive made from natural materials such as clay, goose eggs, and bora rice.

From afar, the pavilion’s egg-shaped dome resembles a goose egg, further accentuating its distinctive design. Historically, the Rang Ghar served as an exclusive venue for the Ahom royal family to enjoy traditional Bihu celebrations and various forms of entertainment, including peacock and buffalo fights.

Architectural Marvel

Spanning 88 feet in length and 36.5 feet in width, the Rang Ghar is an enduring symbol of the Ahom dynasty’s opulence and Assam’s rich cultural heritage. Its preservation and development as a tourism hub aim to attract global attention to this unique monument, showcasing the artistry and history of the region.

A Step Towards Heritage Tourism

By including the Rang Ghar in its tourism development plan, the government underscores the importance of preserving India’s diverse cultural heritage. This initiative is poised to not only revive historical sites but also boost local economies through increased tourism.

As Assam’s Rang Ghar gears up for a new role on the tourism map, it promises to offer visitors a journey through time, reflecting the architectural brilliance and vibrant traditions of the Ahom era.
