Now, Amer Ruler Mirza Raja Jai Singh’ Wax Figure Coming Up In Jaipur Wax Museum

On the occasion of Rajasthan Day, the Jaipur Wax Museum at Nahargarh is set to unveil a wax figure of Mirza Raja Jai Singh tomorrow on March 29 at the iconic Sheesh Mahal. This remarkable addition will allow tourists to witness the life-like representation of the legendary ruler of Amer, who conceived and built the magnificent Sheesh Mahal.

From Rajasthan Day onwards, visitors will be able to see the wax statue of Mirza Raja Jai Singh, the ruler of Amer State, positioned in the Sheesh Mahal of the Jaipur Wax Museum. Jai Singh, who ruled Amer for 46 years (1621-1667), served under three Mughal emperors—Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb. In 1637 AD, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan appointed him as the ruler of Amer and honored him with the title of Mirza Raja.

The wax statue is seated on a throne in the Sheesh Mahal, accompanied by wax figures of his minister, commander, and courtier, offering tourists an immersive experience of the royal court. The statue weighs approximately 38 kg and stands about 6 feet tall.

Anoop Srivastava, Founder Director of Jaipur Wax Museum, expressed his excitement about this latest addition. He remarked that while the Sheesh Mahal, adorned with over 3 million glass pieces showcasing vibrant colors and intricate Tikri craftsmanship, has always amazed visitors, something felt incomplete. “Bringing the court of the Sheesh Mahal to life with wax figures has infused a soul into the palace, making it a truly living heritage,” he said. This enhancement aims to provide tourists with a unique and immersive historical experience.

Notably, the Sheesh Mahal at Nahargarh is the first in the world with a glass floor, a feature that captivates both local and international tourists, transporting them to a bygone era.

The wax figure of Mirza Raja Jai Singh has been meticulously crafted based on historical paintings sourced from various historical texts, ensuring an accurate representation of the revered ruler.

On March 30, 1949, coinciding with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Samvat and Revati Nakshatra Indra Yoga at 10:40 AM, the foundation of Greater Rajasthan was laid. This historic moment was announced by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the Darbar Hall courtyard of City Palace, Jaipur. Before this day, the princely states of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Sirohi were not part of United Rajasthan. With their integration, Sardar Patel officially declared the formation of Greater Rajasthan. Reflecting on the legacy of Rajputana, he remarked, “The old glory of Rajputana still fills us with pride.” Just a few weeks later, on May 15, 1949, Alwar and Karauli also merged into Rajasthan.

A Journey Marked by Determination

A day before Rajasthan Day, on March 29, 1949, Sardar Patel set out for Jaipur from Delhi. However, his plane developed a technical fault near Shahpura, forcing an emergency landing in a dry riverbed. A car was quickly arranged, and he reached Rambagh Hotel late at night. The next morning, at precisely 10:40 AM, Greater Rajasthan was officially inaugurated.

Sardar Patel’s Vision for Rajasthan

During the ceremony, Patel emphasised the importance of unity and national identity. He stated,

“Even if we are from Rajputana, we are first of all Indians. We must embrace this mindset. It is natural for a Jaipur resident to take pride in Jaipur, just as citizens of other princely states take pride in their heritage. But, a frog confined to a small well cannot expand its thinking or increase its strength. In contrast, crocodiles of the ocean can navigate vast waters—something the well-bound frog cannot do. We all belong to Hindustan, and our loyalty should be towards the nation.”

As Rajasthan welcomed a new beginning, Patel urged its people to embrace the spirit of a unified Rajasthan. He encouraged them to cleanse their hearts, seek blessings for wisdom and strength, and dedicate themselves to the upliftment and service of Rajasthan.
