Chenab rail arch bridge will be approximately 1,178-feet or 359 metres high and will also be 53 feet taller than the 1,125-feet Millau Viaduct in France which currently holds the distinction.
This arch bridge, 1.315-km-long, is being constructed at a height of 359 metres above Chenab river waters, is 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower in France.
The bridge shall have sensors to monitor wind velocity which shall send signals to train to be stopped when the wind speed exceeds 90 Kmph.
The bridge is being built by Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) and is a part of the 111- km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail link Project (USBRL) and it aims at connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country via a railway line.
This Chenab bridge will connect Katra and Banihal which is a key part of the USBRL section of the Kashmir Railway project.
The installation work of the main arch between two sides started in 2004.
