Nikki Haley, former UN ambassador, US, and two-term governor of South Carolina, is reportedly to declare her candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Nikki Haley will begin the campaign on February 15 in Charleston, South Carolina. After Donald Trump declared his presidential candidacy in November, Haley emerged as the second most prominent Republican contender.
Thus, the third Indian American to run for president would be Nikki Haley. Haley inherits Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, whose 2015 campaign never really took off. Kamala Harris, the current Vice President, is an Indian American who ran for President in 2020.
Nikki Haley gained a reputation as a business-friendly leader who prioritized luring large corporations to the state while serving as governor of South Carolina. Plus, she rose to national notoriety because of her efforts to stop the Confederate flag from flying above the state house in Columbia after the racially motivated mass massacre at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church in 2015.
Additionally, it would occur after Haley said in 2021 that she would support Trump once more and would not run against her former employer in a 2024 election.
However, Haley has been making frequent allusions to their candidacy for president. In a January interview with Fox News, she said that she may eventually succeed President Obama.
