Democrat Joe Biden has defeated President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States on Saturday after three days of counting in a long and bitter election.

Reacting to his historic win, Joe Biden tweeted, “America, I’m honoured that you have chosen me to lead our great country.”

US Election Results LIVE Updates 2020: Highest voter turnout rate in 120 years

The 2020 US presidential election has recorded the highest voter turnout in 120 years, says prominent electoral expert. Official sources said that an estimated 239 million people were eligible to vote this year, out of which around 160 million voted.

The November 3 election had a record voter turnout of 66.9 per cent, which is the highest since 1900. The 1900 election had recorded 73.7 per cent voter turnout.

Joe Biden makes history with 70 million votes!

The 2020 US election results seems to have flipped from Republicans to Democrats as Joe Biden has made history by garnering over 70 million votes, surpassing record of former US president Barack Obama.

On Thursday, he tweeted saying, ‘Be patient’ as he inched towards success of stealing the US president chair from his rival Donald Trump.

Joe Biden surpasses record set by Obama

Joe Biden wins  more overall votes than any presidential candidate in US history. He goes close to the winning mark of 270 electoral votes. 

Joe Biden is now 6 electoral votes away from winning the US presidency while Donald Trump is at 214, says The Associated Press. The final results are yet to come even after an entire day of counting.

He has surpassed the record set by Barack Obama in 2008. 

Donald Trump takes court’s shelter

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s campaign and the Georgia Republican Party filed a lawsuit against the Chatham County Board of Elections requesting a judge to order the county to secure and account for ballots received after 7 pm on Election Day.
