A community-driven initiative to give Ratlam’s voice a new identity through the motto “Of the community, for the community and by the community”
Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh: In a significant step towards giving Ratlam its own voice and identity, the city’s first community FM radio station, Radio Vibes 88.8 FM, will be officially launched on October 18 at Ajanta Palace, Ratlam. The initiative goes beyond the launch of a radio station, aiming to create a shared platform for local talent, community needs, cultural heritage and development opportunities.
Guided by the philosophy of “Of the community, for the community and by the community,” Radio Vibes aims to transform radio into more than a medium of entertainment. It seeks to make it an effective tool for education, public awareness, social empowerment and local development. The station will provide people in Ratlam and surrounding areas with opportunities to express their views, showcase their talents and highlight issues that matter to their communities.
According to Archana Sharma, Director of Saksham Sanchar Foundation, Radio Vibes has been envisioned to give local communities a voice and a distinct identity while connecting them with awareness, information and opportunities for development.
Prominent Dignitaries to Attend the Launch Ceremony
The official launch of Radio Vibes 88.8 FM will be attended by prominent dignitaries. Satish Poonia, Rajya Sabha MP and National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will be present as the chief guest. MLA Rajendra Pandey will conduct the programme.
Ratlam Mayor Prahlad Patel, Mayank Jat and Paras Saklecha will attend the event as distinguished guests.
Saksham Sanchar Foundation to Empower Diverse Communities
Through the vision behind Radio Vibes, Saksham Sanchar Foundation aims to work towards the empowerment of different sections of society by addressing their specific needs. The initiative seeks to make relevant information, awareness and opportunities accessible to communities across the region.
Women’s Empowerment and Self-Help Groups: Strengthening women’s social and economic participation will be a key focus. The initiative will work towards supporting self-help groups and promoting digital and financial literacy. The objective is to help women use technology and financial knowledge to move towards greater independence and self-reliance.
Education, Students and Emerging Technologies: Students will be introduced to subjects such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and digital technology. Special efforts will be made to reach students in remote villages around Ratlam, helping improve their access to knowledge and emerging opportunities.
Malvi Language, Folk Songs and Cultural Heritage: Preserving the folk language, music, songs and traditions of the Malwa region will be another important priority. Efforts will be directed towards reviving cultural practices that are gradually fading and providing a platform for local artists, folk performers and cultural practitioners. The aim is to help younger generations remain connected to their roots.
Mental Health Awareness: Radio Vibes will promote conversations and awareness programmes on mental health to reduce social stigma and make useful information more accessible. Through community-oriented discussions, the station aims to encourage greater understanding of mental well-being.
Literature and Local Talent: Writers, poets, artists, singers and emerging creative talents will be given opportunities to showcase their work. Literary activities and cultural expression will form an important part of the initiative, helping local talent gain recognition and reach wider audiences.
In addition, the station will feature subjects relevant to farmers, young people, traders and other sections of society. Programmes will also focus on education, healthcare, environmental awareness, road safety and other issues of public interest.
Radio Programmes to Highlight Ratlam’s Inspiring Stories
Radio Vibes 88.8 FM will give special attention to local talent, individuals bringing positive change to society and the cultural heritage of Malwa. With this vision, RJ Himshikha and RJ Anjali have shared the concepts of their programmes and special series.
‘Aadhi Aabadi’ by RJ Himshikha: Dedicated to women, the programme will spotlight those who have carved a distinct identity through their work, achievements and contributions to society. Through interviews, it will bring listeners closer to their struggles, experiences, accomplishments and journeys. The initiative aims to recognise women’s achievements and inspire others through their stories.
‘Shakhsiyat’ by RJ Anjali: This series will introduce listeners to notable personalities from Ratlam who have made meaningful contributions in their respective fields. Through conversations about their experiences, challenges, achievements and journeys, the programme will bring local success stories to a wider audience and highlight the people shaping the region.
‘Malvi Ki Maati’: This series will showcase the folk language, culture, traditions and everyday life of the Malwa region through social media. As the use of Malvi gradually declines in changing times, the initiative aims to connect younger generations with the language and its cultural heritage while raising awareness about the importance of preserving it.
Through these programmes, Radio Vibes seeks to create a platform where local women, inspiring personalities, artists and cultural practitioners can receive recognition and appreciation for their contributions.
