Innovation is thriving in Kashmir as Bilal Ahmad, a mathematics teacher from Srinagar, has successfully tested his solar-powered car named ‘Ray.’ This groundbreaking vehicle, designed to run on renewable energy, is expected to hit the roads by June 2025.
A Vision Turned Reality
Bilal Ahmad dedicated years to designing and developing this eco-friendly automobile, which cost over ₹20 lakh to build. The car features solar panels installed on its roof, bonnet, and trunk, capable of generating approximately 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) of energy.
Performance & Charging Efficiency
One of the key highlights of ‘Ray’ is its efficient charging system. The car takes about 4 to 5 hours to fully charge and can travel up to 100 kilometers on a single charge. Additionally, the vehicle continuously charges itself during travel through solar energy and can also be powered using electricity when needed.
A Sustainable Future
Bilal’s invention is a step towards sustainable mobility and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. The successful trial marks a significant milestone in promoting green energy solutions in Kashmir. With the launch planned for mid-year, ‘Ray’ could pave the way for more innovative solar-powered vehicles in India.
