Once Rolls Royce was used to pick municipal waste by Alwar King

Rajasthan’s Maharaja from Alwar once used world renowned Rolls Royce to pick up the municipal waste, just to teach the automobile company a lesson that they should respect all human beings.

The Rolls-Royce story associated with Rajasthan is being shared by people across with utmost pride even today.

One day on his trip to London, Maharaja Jai Singh (Alwar king), walking in casual dress on Bond Street, saw a Rolls Royce showroom and went inside to inquire about the price and features of their cars.

The showroom salesmen insulted him and showed him the way out, thinking he was a poor Indian.

The insulted Maharaja Jai Singh returned to his hotel room and asked his servants to call the showroom that the Maharaja of Alwar was interested in purchasing a few cars.

In next few hours, the Maharaja reached the Rolls Royce showroom again but in full royal regalia wearing his royal costume.

This time, the showroom gave him a red carpet welcome and all the salesmen bowed before him with respect

The Maharaja purchased all six cars which were there at the showroom at that time and paid full amount with delivery costs.

On his return to India, Maharaja ordered municipal department to use all six Rolls Royce cars for cleaning and transporting city’s waste.

The news spread like wild fire that the world’s number one Rolls Royce cars were being used for transportation of Alwar city’s waste and the reputation of Rolls Royce Company eventually became a laughing stock

While people in Europe or America boasted that they owned a Rolls Royce, other people used to laugh and say, “Which one? The same that is used in India for carrying the waste of the city?”

After the severe damage to reputation, sales of Rolls Royce cars dropped rapidly and the revenue of  the company showed a decline.

The company owners then sent a telegram to the Maharaja in India offering apologies and requested him to stop transportation of waste in Rolls Royce cars. They also offered him six new cars free of cost.

When Maharaja Jai Singh felt that the Rolls Royce company learnt a lesson, he stopped carrying  municipal waste in those cars.
