India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 Match Could be Moved to Dubai or Sri Lanka: Report

As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to affect international cricket fixtures, the highly anticipated 2025 ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan may be moved to a neutral venue, with Dubai and Sri Lanka emerging as potential hosts. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to request the International Cricket Council (ICC) to adopt a hybrid model for the tournament, akin to the arrangement made for the 2023 Asia Cup.

BCCI’s Proposal to ICC

According to a report from ANI, the BCCI has decided that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Instead, the BCCI will propose that India’s matches be relocated to either Dubai or Sri Lanka. “India will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. We will tell ICC to hold its matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying.

Tournament Schedule and Venues

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already drafted a preliminary schedule, assigning seven matches to Lahore, five to Rawalpindi, and three to Karachi. Under the PCB’s proposal, the high-stakes match between India and Pakistan is slated to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 1.

Historical Context and Current Situation

India has not toured Pakistan since 2008. Over the past 16 years, the two cricketing giants have faced each other in only one bilateral series, which occurred during the 2012-13 season. Last year, India was set to participate in the Asia Cup hosted by Pakistan, but due to geopolitical tensions, the tournament was relocated, and India’s matches, including the final, were held in Sri Lanka.

Despite India’s reluctance to play in Pakistan, the Pakistani team traveled to India for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, playing matches in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. The decision regarding India’s travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy ultimately rests with the Indian government.

Government’s Role and Future Discussions

A source close to the matter emphasized that any decision about India’s participation in matches held in Pakistan would be made by the Indian government. “While the details of the tournament have not yet been discussed, it is highly unlikely that the Indian team will travel to Pakistan. Ultimately, the decision rests with the Indian government. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to raise this issue at the upcoming ICC meeting in Sri Lanka this month,” the source said.

PCB’s Draft for Champions Trophy 2025

Last week, it was reported that the PCB had submitted its draft plan for the Champions Trophy 2025, detailing the allocation of matches across Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi. The proposed marquee clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for March 1 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The last ICC Champions Trophy, held in England in 2017, saw Pakistan triumph over India in a memorable final.

As the cricketing world awaits the ICC’s decision, fans hope for a resolution that allows the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match to proceed smoothly, whether in Pakistan or a neutral venue like Dubai or Sri Lanka.
