Lithium reserves in Jammu and Kashmir amount to 6 million metric tons. The price is almost 34 lakh crores of rupees. The Geographical Survey of India (GSI) provided this information on February 9. China is India’s primary supplier of lithium. Lithium deposits are now nearly four times greater than those in China. If India is successful in generating this lithium, it may become just as wealthy as the Gulf countries.
The ministry added, “During the 62nd Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) meeting held on February 9, 2023, 35 geological memoranda and fifteen other resource-bearing geological reports (G2 and G3 stages) were handed over to respective state governments.”
Based on the work completed by GSI from field seasons 2018–19 up to this point, the blocks were prepared. One of the essential elements in EV batteries is lithium. In addition to this, the Ministry of Coal received 17 reports of coal and lignite with a combined reserve of 7897 million metric tons. At the conference, seven publications on various GSI intervention areas and themes were also issued.
115 projects on strategic and essential minerals have been developed, including 16 projects on fertilizer minerals. In addition, 155 programs for training and establishing institutional capacity, 55 programs on geoinformatics, and 140 programs on basic and transdisciplinary geosciences have been taken up.
