Casio has introduced its first functional smart ring, the CRW-001-1JR, marking its 50th anniversary in the digital watch industry. This unique gadget, priced at approximately $128, will be available in Japan starting December 2024. Designed as a wearable miniaturization of Casio’s iconic digital watches, it combines retro aesthetics with modern features.
The CRW-001-1JR features a six-segment LCD screen that displays hours, minutes, and seconds, along with additional functions such as a date display, stopwatch, dual time zones, and an alarm. The alarm is distinctive as it uses a flashing display instead of sound. The ring is crafted from stainless steel using a metal injection molding process, making it durable and stylish while weighing 16 grams. It is waterproof for daily use and powered by a replaceable battery lasting up to two years, eliminating the need for frequent charging.
Despite its innovative design, the CRW-001-1JR is limited to a standard U.S. size 10.5. Casio provides spacers for smaller fingers, but it lacks flexibility for larger sizes. Unlike conventional smart rings, it does not include health-tracking or smartphone connectivity, focusing instead on being a functional timepiece in a compact form.
This launch celebrates Casio’s legacy while showcasing a creative approach to wearable technology. Fans can look forward to its release in Japan, though availability in other markets remains uncertain.
