Yahoo closing down its Groups Function—including the Oriental Birding Group.
Krys Kazmierczak, who was the online moderator for the Oriental Bird Group, recently informed the group users that this interactive Internet site will be shutting down. Because of lessening use, Yahoo is closing down its Groups Function—including the Oriental Birding Group.
However, while the internet group is gone, its parent organisation, the Oriental Bird Club, is still going strong with https://www.orientalbirdclub.org/.
This Club supports and promises conservation
The Club, which operates out of the United Kingdom, supports conservation work in the Oriental region. This region includes India among many other countries. The Club’s goal is to encourage studies of birds and their habitats. Over 300 Oriental bird species are considered by BirdLife International as threatened by forest destruction, wetland drainage, hunting and trade. Thus, it is easy to see that the work of the club in India and elsewhere in very important. The aims of the Oriental Bird Club are—
- to encourage an interest in wild birds of the Oriental region and their conservation
- to promote the work of regional bird and nature societies
- to collate and publish information on Oriental birds
All about the Club you want to know
The Club achieves these aims through an active grants program. It has invested more than £250,000 in conservation projects in the region since 1984. The Club also supports several publications designed to educate and inform. In addition, the Club maintains a beautiful collection of 184,390 photographs with 2,948 species covered! This database has been created to bring together photographs of as many bird species from the Oriental Region as possible.
