Born on the land of Rajasthan


Maharana Pratap was born on 9 May 1540 at Kumbhalgarh Fort, presently located in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. He was the king of the great Sisodia dynasty of Mewar and his father was Rana Udai Singh II, who founded the city of Udaipur. Maharana Pratap spent his childhood in difficulties and struggles, but he always gave top priority to his self-esteem and the defense of his motherland.

When He Refused Akbar’ Supremacy


Maharana Pratap flatly refused to accept the supremacy of Mughal Emperor Akbar after assuming the throne of Mewar. He fought for freedom all his life and never knelt before the Mughals. He was the ruler of Udaipur, Chittor and the surrounding areas, but most of the time he stayed in the hills and jungles and took iron from the Mughals through a policy of guerrilla warfare.
