Wishing a heartfelt Happy Birthday to the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu! 🎉
Today, we don’t just celebrate the birth of a leader—we honor the rise of a woman who turned personal tragedy and social adversity into a beacon of hope for millions
Born on 20 June 1958 in the remote village of Uparbeda in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, Droupadi Murmu belongs to the Santhal tribe, one of India’s most marginalized communities. Her early life was steeped in poverty—her father was a farmer and village head, and she often studied by lantern light. Yet, she became the first woman from her village to graduate, earning a B.A. from Rama Devi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar.
Her professional journey began humbly—as a junior assistant in Odisha’s Irrigation Department and later as a schoolteacher. But her heart was set on public service. In 1997, she entered politics as a councillor in Rairangpur and soon joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She served two terms as an MLA and held ministerial roles in Commerce, Transport, and Fisheries in Odisha. Her work earned her the Nilkantha Award for Best Legislator in 2007.
But her political path was not without setbacks. She lost the 2009 Lok Sabha election and faced political isolation for a time. Yet, she never gave up. In 2015, she became the first tribal woman Governor of Jharkhand, serving with dignity and distinction for over six years.
A Personal Life Marked by Unimaginable Loss—and Unshakable Strength
Between 2009 and 2015, Droupadi Murmu endured a series of devastating personal tragedies: the deaths of her two sons, husband, mother, and brother—all within seven years. The grief was so overwhelming that she once said, “People thought I would not survive.” But she did. She turned to Rajyoga meditation through the Brahma Kumaris, which helped her find peace and purpose again.
She rebuilt her life through spiritual discipline, waking up at 3:30 a.m. daily for meditation and dedicating herself to public service. She even established a residential school in memory of her late husband and sons, ensuring that children from tribal communities receive the education she once fought so hard for.
A Symbol of Women’s Empowerment
President Murmu’s life is a testament to the power of resilience, education, and quiet determination. She shattered glass ceilings not just as the first tribal President of India, but also as a widow, a grieving mother, and a woman of humble origins who never let sorrow define her.
Her story inspires countless women across India to believe that no dream is too distant, and no struggle too great. On her birthday, we salute her not just as the First Citizen of India—but as a first-rate example of courage, compassion, and conviction. 🌸🇮🇳
